This is a good analogy, but you have to be a top grade chess player to understand. It is called a smothered mate. You use their own people to get in the way and use a pinpoint strategy to win.

The point is to kill the king, or known as checkmate. It matters little how many pieces are left on either side, only the killing of the king is all that matters.

Little matters that Hillary reportedly won the most votes within the conglomerate of the states, it is only run by how many states vote for president.

I would say that is a dream world worthy of a science fiction movie, not reality. Now if the Chinese were involved, hmmmmm.

there was no Russian collusion, and there was no Russian interference with the voting machines.

I wasn’t asking why the electoral college exists. I was asserting that it shouldn’t.

And to be honest, if a video of him openly bragging about his tendencies to sexually assault women didn’t amount to a deal breaker then nothing would have. That’s always been my biggest problem with Trump. His people wanted him to win so badly that they didn’t care about anything he did. They still don’t.

Why not? WE are a republic, it has been successful for 225+ years. I would leave a sleeping dog lie. After all, next time it could be the republicans it burns. It is the states who pick a leader in a republic, not the national individual voters. It is the way it is and it Works. The populace majority of the states wanted Donald Trump. Next time it could bring a win to Bernie Sanders.

And I have heard such bragging to be a nothingburger. Where are the women of METOO. If he had done things like that, there would be a line of money hungry women wanting to sue.

I don’t know why you’re asking me why not. I’m sure you already know where I’m coming from. More Americans who worked up the interest to vote wanted Hillary Clinton to be president than wanted Donald Trump to be president. And yet Trump is now the president. I don’t support any aspect of the election process that overrides the collective will of the people when it comes to choosing our leaders.

And if Bernie sanders won in the same way Trump won i would still oppose it. The Power of the individual American voter is diminished by the existence of a system that overrides the collective will of the people. In a straight up popular election, everyone’s vote matters. In an electoral college system, anyone who voted a different way than the way their state went is instantly discarded.

You guys nominated a woman who was not liked by the american people and you all still refuse to admit your mistake. Have you all learned anything? Anyone would've beaten Trump, but not her. Heck, my dog would've beaten Trump. It just proves you guys nominated a woman americans HATED more than a game show host. Also, what the heck were you thinking letting Debbie Wasserman Schultz be heard of the DNC?

We don't use popular vote because most of us don't want CA making decisions for the rest of us. The reason we don't is obvious.

Correct me if I'm wrong but did Trump get elected via a democratic system that America has had in place since the late 1700's?

You dont, keep them talking about it into 2020, you got to keep them looking at the left hand while the right hand does everything.

Trump will always have the asterisk after his name in the history books ( * one of the few Presidents elected with fewer popular votes). Get over it. It is what it is.

And if a democrat talks about it, he will of course ignore context. Hillary won some states with many more votes than trump. Like Ca. N.Y. come to mind. High population states. But our system does not allow the more populous states elect presidents. Context. We elect using the electoral college. So in our system, getting more popular votes means nothing except to the people who got it, but still lost, due to the way we elect presidents.

That asterisk does not have meaning giving our system. You want it to have relevance, but it just does not.

Trump's Approval Rating Rises Among Hispanics
    COMMENTARY

    By Steve Cortes
    June 28, 2018

In a new Harvard/Harris poll released this week exclusively to The Hill, President Trump’s overall approval rating rose to 47 percent, just two points shy of the highest level of his presidency, per that survey. The main driver of his growing popularity now: a stunning 10 percent rise in Trump approval among Hispanics.

    Why do you care?

We are a representative Republic, majority votes means nothing. They are just trying to stir the pot and pick a fight, there is no reason to even entertain such a conversation as it means nothing to the vote of the Presidency.

Fascinating numbers, I really think this poll is my favorite as to what I think accuracy would be. The stats they show seem to represent the country as a whole.

    Trump approve/disapprove

    Economy - 57%/43%

    Foreign Affairs - 47%/53%

    Terrorism - 57%/43%

    Administration - 45%/55%

    Jobs - 58%/42%

    Immigration - 46%/54%

    Rep Party - 39%/61%

    Dem Party - 42%/58%

Fascinating poll, again, love the detail

That number for republican approval of trump looks like an outlier to me. Where did this poll come from?

Abraham Lincoln was elected in 1860 with 39.7% of the popular vote.

It was a four way race that year and Lincoln still had the largest number of popular votes. Trump - not so much.

    After the Democratic convention split.

Trump won in a four way race as well.

Hillary Clinton did not garnish 50% of the popular vote.

Libertarian, Green Party and others accounted for 5.6% of the popular vote.

Trump won in the states he visited... Hillary punted on Wisconsin and Michigan. As Paul Ryan pointed out, Wisconsin is a nice place to visit in the Fall.

Is laughing at them not an option? It's what I do. The electoral college is there so states get representation otherwise California starts dictating policy to Alaska about solar panels lol.

First, the illegal votes for Hillary probably went close to 10 million. And the EC was specifically created so the small states would not be overrun by the populace big states. Without the EC, there would be no United States PERIOD. It worked just like it was suppose to. We are the UNITED STATES, a REPUBLIC. You labor under a false god, that we are a democracy. People who tell you that are the same as 3 wolves and a sheep deciding what is for dinner. We are NOT a democracy and never were intended to be one in all cases. That is a good thing that we are not a Mob rule country. You are simply upset that your anointed criminal leader, Hillary, was shown for what she was and was NOT anointed/elected.

It is simple. In football, you can have twice as many yards gained as your opponent, and still lose the game by points. Baseball, you can have more hits than the opponent, but still lose the game if the opponent hits a grand slam.
That is the way the "game" of president works. It is not how many hits you get, not how many yards you gain, it is the score on the score board at the end of the game.
