I was just laughing because they repeat the headline every decade and get all excited about it.

The U.S. has proven that fracking has come a long way in 20 years and that american oil companies are very proficient in the process.

Oil that was once was considered too expensive to extract is now quite profitable.

I would not assume this oil field will remain untouched.

Yep, and 90% of this oil went to Israel through the Straits.

Well I seriously doubt that any oil major would ever get involved with Israel and most certainly they wouldn't touch it with oil under $60 a barrel.

Lol TIPLINE was built in 1968. The war over the Egyptian naval blockade of Israel was in 1967. Egypt and Syria attacked Israel in 1967. Duh :D

Humm, let's see. Do we want another group of bat-(*)(*)(*)(*) crazy Muslims to have access to billions of dollars worth of oil, or do we want the Israelis to have control of it.

Yea, it's a tough decision, but I think we should side with Israel on this one.

The USA has never returned land it conquered and made part of our nation. Why should Israel? Syria attacked Israel hoping to seize and take control of its land. Syria murderously gambled - and lost.

Gamble your money at a casino hoping to get more, lose and they try demanding your money you lost back. It doesn't work that way. There are consequences to starting - and losing - a war.

The Israelis have control... They have had control over every HUGE oil reserve discovered by the Israelis since 1998.

Yes.. They have announced the world's largest oil reserves several time since 1998.. None of the majors will touch them.

They were foreign army, attacking sovereign state of Israel, and lost Golan Hights as a result. Serves them right

Israel was notorious for provoking Syrian attacks from the Golan, by violating the No Man's Land.

That's true, but those violations weren't reported in the US.. only in the Middle East and Europe.. They were pretty frequent too.. I used to listen to the reports on the BBC and Voice or America.

The European Jews were refugees seeking sanctuary.. and they proceeded to abuse their host country.

As for the Golan... Israel was always going into the Golan and they sparked many incidents.. all thru the 1950s and 1960s. Seems like the BBC and Voice of America were reporting those provocations every week or so..

    The Israelis coveted the land..

    Read Moshe Dayan..

Why can't they nationalize them? Why do they need oil companies?

The only oil company working in Israeli is Noble which is a minor player... and Israel can't develop an oilfield at $50 a barrel.. Nothing will come of this other than a lot of crowing and a lot of hysterical rhetoric about "how the Arabs will attack them for their oil".. I've heard it all before.

China is doing the same thing to Japan and I don't see you whining about that. Sounds like some anti-Semitic dribble to me. The area IS disputable.

Let's get it straight about the Syria-Israel war in 1967.

Syria attacked Israel first, believing that Egypt was going to overrun Israel.

Then when Syria discovered that the reports of the IDF's destruction were false, and Israel was more than able to repel a Syrian attack, Syria decided to accept a cease-fire with Israel...but Israel decided to instead punish Syria for attacking them and take the Golan.

The same thing happened in the West Bank. Israel urged Jordan not to attack Israel and support Egypt, but Jordan instead decided to attack Israel. So Israel responded with better forced, and took the West Bank.

In both cases, Israel conquered Arab lands after these Arabs chose to attack Israel first.

Yep. It was an ideal spot for setting up artillery for firing into Israel, hence its strategic and tactical importance. As for the oil and gas discoveries, most of those were made in the late '70's and early '80's, pioneered by a small oil company from Ft. Worth owned by the Moncrief family, and aren't remotely new news; there are lots of oil reserves around the world, it's the cost of extraction that determines feasibility, not its mere presence somewhere. The OP's premise is somewhat like some guy from Omaha suddenly announcing he discovered New York City has skyscrapers.

Syria chose to attack Israel. They didn't have to. They lost territory due to this.

Jordan chose to attack Israel. They didn't have to. Israel urged them not to. They did it anyways, and lost territory due to this.
