    ** Yawn **

I'll miss the crazy sideshow. But maybe Venezuelans now will end their flirtation with authoritarian rule and restore their democracy to health.

    Democracy. It's a fallacy.

    What's to aspire to?

Sure there's some benefit, but what has democracy brought us in the faux wealthy west? A failed economic system, party politics taking precedence over national politics, mewling upper middle and upper upper class drips who've never known a real days work in their life being paid tens and hundreds of thousands a year for failed economic policies and broken promises and a left right dominated political spectrum which stagnates the freedom of real choice in such faux democratic systems which are usually being run in the shadows by banks, royalty and special interest groups.

Democracy in economically failed capitalist states has never been about democracy for the people, illegal war after illegal war, unjust war after unjust war, law after law, erosion of personal freedoms and personal accountability is proof of this.

There is no sense in our failed western democracies which are fraught with corruption and deception, only self.

In many working class jobs, the working class individual is rewarded for good conduct and not rewarded for mediocre or substandard conduct and in some cases even fired for the latter, in upper class jobs, such as politics, running banks, sitting on alot of money and making businesses in every market to dominate all markets and make even more money thus taking away opportunities for those not born on a lot of money, failure does not determine whether you get to eat or not, whether you can pay for your bills or have place to call home or not, there is no real justice in today's western societies, especially when the rich get to burden the poor with their mistakes while they get away with still being paid for failure.

Like when a CIA backed coup ousted Chavez and installed an unelected leader who immediately abolished the national assembly and national election boards, only to have the Venezuelan people take to the streets and force his return in less than 48 hours? Talk about un-democratic.

Watching five minutes of the privately owned media in Venezuela makes it hard to see him as an authoritarian dictator. They'll say things about him that would be unimaginable for a major American news network to say about the president.

Chavez is popular in Venezuela. He's been elected 3 times. This is sad for their people.

    I say this half-seriously, half tongue-in-cheek...

I wonder if Ozzie Guillen would consider being President of Venezuela?

Back at ya. The man is ill. Your lack of respect and humanity says more about you than Sr Chavez.

I agree. However, I still think it offers more of a defence for the people than the other alternatives, even if those at the top are again so determined and dedicated to cannibalizing every last shred of flesh from the people whist the people have currently lowered their guard, forgotten what they are dealing with and the dangers of allowing these selfish bastards an inch.

It really is and for the whole region. He wasn't just working to improve conditions within his own country.

Not really, but perhaps for those who tried to have an elected leader murdered in order to further their own aims and then were stupid enough to be publicly caught out doing that.

    He will.

True. Of course, there was the time Chavez mounted a coup of his own.

Yes, I know. That's why I said "flirtation with authoritarian rule" and didn't call him a dictator.

Chavez kept pushing and passing Constitutional changes to give him more and more power, undermine the ability of the opposition to mount effective campaigns, etc. The Venezuelan people were willingly giving away parts of their democracy. That was their choice. But as I said, I hope they will now end their flirtation with that and restore a healthy democracy.

Anyone who supports what this tyrant has done to the people of Venezuela is too stupid to argue with.
