Dallas is prepared to house thousands in the convention center. Pets will be housed at a shelter in a parking garage nearby. That's a good thing.
Texans.... y'all know ya' just need to sprinkle a little bit to get the grass to grow. No need to go Big!

The water in some areas is quickly growing toxic. Exposure to contaminated water can make you very sick, very quickly, and even result in life-long health problems. This is going to get much uglier.
Snakes, floating fire ant hoards. I have actually seen a lot of hawks speaking of animals the past few days, they were very active once the winds picked up even before the rains came, also had a juvenile great heron post up in my backyard for a few hours. Still F'ing raining though at midnight making it Tuesday: day five of heavy rains......... Glad I have not had a problem yet (have food, sewage system, no flooding street or home, and power) in southeast Houston, getting physically and mentally exhausted though. Good luck to the people in the golden triangle and Louisiana, its starting to be a ton of rain for them to.
If your house is in Houston and it doesn't get flooded it's value should increase by at least $300,000 simply because of its location. Be sure to take some dated pictures to use for when you sell.
Im actually in the La Porte, Deer Park area of the Houston metro; maybe 25 miles from downtown southeast. It is located along the Houston ship channel in the refinery area's. As I have mentioned, this storm is a lot like Tropical Storm Allison in 2001, its slow moving, back and forth into the gulf and 40+ inches of rain -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropical_Storm_Allison Since TS Allison the city here did a lot of bonds and developed the drainage infrastructure more which seems to have helped at least here. They dug new ditches and more importantly widened existing ditches and bayou's to handle more water. Luckily La Porte drains either into the ship channel or Galveston bay which is good considering there is no storm surge pushing water up into those area's with this event. As long as there are lull's in the heavy rain, the water has a place to go.
Uh-Oh! Up thread I posted links to Addicks usgs site showing water levels. These earthen dams were constructed in the 40's and are on the list for needed structural repairs. Labour Harvey floodwaters put Houston reservoirs in 'uncharted territory' An already-swollen reservoir west of downtown Houston is expected to crest levees Tuesday morning, sending an "uncontrolled release" of Harvey's floodwaters into neighborhoods, and putting the besieged city into "uncharted territory," according to an official. The Addicks Reservoir, located about 19 miles west of downtown, will spill over for the first time in history by daylight Tuesday, threatening immediate surrounding subdivisions, an official told Fox News. Interstate highway 45 is submerged from the effects of Hurricane Harvey seen during widespread flooding in Houston, Texas, U.S. August 27, 2017. (REUTERS/Richard Carso) Jeff Lindner, a meteorologist with the Harris County (Texas) Flood Control District, told Fox News the spillover will cause "serious flooding in immediate areas," starting as a trickle, then becoming an uncontrolled release of water. Second-story homes also will be at risk, Linder added. Lindner said this does not mean that downtown Houston will necessarily be greatly impacted, but officials don't fully know what will happen because they've never faced this situation before. The meteorologist described the situation to Fox News as "uncharted territory" for the city. A press conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET to discuss the spillover. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DIVX2I7XgAEiObk?format=jpg http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/08/2...ouston-reservoirs-in-uncharted-territory.html
https://twitter.com/LivingstonDam?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author My vacation home is on this lake. Usually water discharge through the dam is less than 10000 cubic feet per second. Currently it's over 110000. That water, and the water getting out of other reservoirs around the area, is where a lot of the flooding is coming from.
Left is undeterred by the suffering and death, they focus in on the "important" things: Progressives had a freak out over Melania Trump’s shoes today She changed her shoes.
Yahoo did a full article criticizing her shoes. Unbelievable. They will find anything to criticize with Trump and FLOTUS, down to shoes during time of a natural disaster.
