http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-04-...-northern-territory-moratorium-lifted/9666022 Down go the chemicals, our groundwater polluted. Who cares, I am giving up. Can't get much more stupid..... But the $ are rolling, I get the drift... Reg.
I agree - Fracking has too many question marks hanging over it and the LAST rhing we want is to bugger up the ground water Did you see that one of the sticking points about ADANI was that they were going to use one BILLION litres of ground water per year??
Bb, if fracking could be done without chemicals, why not. But poisoning our ground water is an absolute no go zone and not justified by even large amounts of money, which similar to the mining industry is not spend in our country. Adani, another dead horse, in the hope India is buying our coal for the next 40 years, what a joke. Yes, the number I have heard as well, 1 billion litres of water. One can only hope that our government is coming to senses, other countries are reigning in huge sums on renewable technology, and what do we do? We have the sunshine and could do the technology as well, although we have lost ground and need to be catching up. Reg.
This is what also made my nose twitch about Adani - why would they invest in a dying industry?? Don't get me wrong I live in the bush and we can always do with more work but a Billion litres of ground water - do you know how many farms that would support?
M2, I’m not convinced on the evil of fracking. I tend to sway on this issue depending on what article I read or documentary I watch : ). Gotta say though....I’m nervous. There is an old biblical prophecy that comes to mind about large amounts of water being poisoned. I thought Fukushima may have been it but fracking which is now becoming more and more prevalent may just be the fulfillment. Apparently there is no way to treat the flow back water, which is a compounding problem on top of the potential for chemicals injected reaching underground aquifers. Maybe I’ll watch another documentary and come back more positive on issue ; ) You are right though M2, we have a safe source in the sun but there doesn’t seem to be profits in it like fossil fuels and that is the kicker!
Yes, it is a real pity, we have the sunshine in abundance, could sell our energy via sea-cables to Indonesia and so on, but we still turn the other chief (US), in mind and in war. Instead of realizing what huge potential we have, no one even comes close. Maybe you get the same or more (sunshine) in the Sahara, but as political unstable Northern Africa is, it leaves us alone to deliver..... I could cry every day about all the lost time and money. Money through clean energy, and money which would stay in our country.... Reg.
Yep, that's Labor for you. All their spiel about saving the environment, stopping pollution, protecting nature etc, etc, etc, is all just hot, steaming, brown runny stuff pouring out of their mouths. Money is their only God.
Yep, Labor and Libs/Nationals have become too similar for my liking..... So vote for the Greens, reg.
Indonesia has a huge geothermal source of energy - they just have to tap it AND of course that requires money, investment and know how Even India has a huge potential for geothermal in the Deccan traps. But Indias strength should lie in what is now being developed - small energy sources and units that interconnect. Rural India would do well with this sort of infrastructure
Bb, how do you see geotherm? I might be wrong there, but by reducing the internal heat of our planet, doesn't it shorten also any lives later on, I mean much later that is? As I said, I don't understand the long time consequences of geotherm, however it makes me nervous.... Reg.
That is a good response, it should be the long term goal - best for us, the environment and sustainability - should win above short term politics, regardless of party, reg.
Some impressive candidates are coming forward in our Nova Scotia provincial Progressive Conservative Party. I like this guy for most of what he stands for....... except for the fact that he supports fracking?! John Lohr for leader of N. S. Progressive Conservatives. http://www.kingscountynews.ca/busin...acking-moratorium-lifted-with-caveats-178127/ Provincial PC leadership candidate wants fracking moratorium lifted, with caveats
What does turn the other Chief mean ? When it comes down to Australian National Policy, tell other Countries to Bugg Off including the U.S.
Simple, the US under Trump left the Paris treaty, and will continue even stronger with coal, fracking and so on. We are the same, despite telling the world how world class, modern and environmentally friendly we are, coal is (apart form iron ore) a big exporter (name India). There was a time when we earned money in abundance, the so called Howard years, but the money wasn't spent wisely. You look at most conservative governments, and they have a tendency to stay in the past.... Wish we could have a more visionary PM, reg.
