By the way. I dug ditches for four years straight out of high school. That led to my Journeyman's card which in turn led to my Master Plumber certificate in which I then became my own boss running my own business where I then hired other like minded "ditch diggers" big money to LEARN A TRADE.

    Don't be knockin ditch diggin.

hard to say as there hasn't been a real labor shortage for 40 to 50 years.

as wages and taxes were higher in the past I fail to see why its unreasonable to expect to pay employees better today.

except there isn't viable shortages in the work force.

Winy little crybaby CEOs who complain that paying their workers more would mean fewer gold-plated toilet seats. Waaaaaaah ...

I toss apple cores, banana peels and my cold coffee out the window. Paper and trash . . . never.

Pretending that Obama is a good president with beneficial policies. What ever happened to the Czars?

it's mind-numbing sometimes that people think that's how people with more money than them, live.

    - - - Updated - - -

exactly, which is why the price for labor goes down with the market fluctuation....

Of course there are labor shortages, just not on a national level. It still illustrates the point when viewed on a local/regional level or even a specific industry.

I went to a McDonald's in my old neighborhood the other day. The neighborhood is pretty much exclusively black. The McDonald's was almost 100% Latino employees. The only person that was not Latino was the manager. The blacks have decided it's better to collect government checks than McDonald's paychecks. Do you really think a few more bucks an hour will put them to work? No way! That's eight hours of their day wasted. Time they could be smoking blunts and writing songs. We have a culture problem, AND a wage problem. Address both.

A perfect example of why the requirements for qualifying should be raised. Not the wages...the qualifications.

NOBODY deserves a living wage. Everybody deserves the chance to EARN it.

And get rid of the toys; i.e., IPods, Pads, Twitter, Facebook, cute little cell phones, all the crap that costs money when connecting. Nobody needs that garbage.

Not only that but it could put you in a higher tax bracket and causing you to end up with less.

I had that happen to me back in the 60s.

I agree with what you say.... but more realistically than cutting everything out is reducing....

I'd argue, a smart phone can be used to help aid your job search. Emailing resume's, job searches, instant contact if a potential employer calls.... etc.

But instead of a $500 64 gb iphone on Verizon for $100 a month, you buy a $30 android phone on 45$/month straighttalk plan....

    but that's not as cool

you can buy nice shoes for $20, instead of $70$ nike

get a roommate instead of living alone

Too often, "liveable wage" is defined so a min wage burger flipper, offering minimum wage skills to society, wants to live my lifestyle as a degree'd individual working a professional job. Sorry you can't live in a 2000 sq ft, 3 bed/2bath house with pool and hotub while flipping burgers.... middle class is not the bar for "liveable wage"

Right. And I forgot about the shoes until after I submitted my post.

When I was fresh out on my own, I had a roommate. For years. I had many friends who also had roommates. Both men and women thought nothing about living with one, two, even three people and sharing costs. It was completely normal.

As a matter of fact, when I was really, really fresh out on my own, my roommate and I would pick up pop bottles and cash them in to have money for food. And I'm telling you, we had more fun, laughing, hysterical fun than anybody could possibly have.

Those seriously were the good old days.

---Recently a friend of mine lost their dog to complications arising from its diet. It had been fed table scraps over many years and developed cancer as a result. Not once has this person or the other people responsible expressed concern about their own health. The food they have been eating killed their dog and they don't stop to think about what it is doing to their own bodies. They subsist on a diet of garbage capable of killing an animal that can eat actual garbage.

---I had the male that sired my friend's dog and he died of old age. I had the (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) that mothered that dog (she too died of old age), and I have the brother who is alive, well and able to run and play hard at the age of 10. None of the aforementioned animals were given a daily diet of the trash that kills people, too.

---Logic evaporates when it is applied to distant consequences. If my friend's dog had been fed something that killed it over night, they wouldn't eat that same food. However, when the damage is caused over several years and eventually produces the same result logic mysteriously fails.

TL;DR: I'm sick and tired of stupidity and people's inability to respect long term consequences.

And at what point do you think they actually planned to be in this fictional situation that just irks your socks off?

Since YOUR life is a carefully crafted result of years of planning, please explain to the rest of us how to avoid the pitfalls of circumstance and mixed bag of luck that seems to trip up the rest of humanity from achieving this idyllic lifestyle of yours.

The problem isn't that 35 yo burgerflippers PLANNED to work min wage jobs during middle age while trying to support a family.... the problem is, they just didn't plan. They went about life just doing whatever they felt, with no regard to future consequences of decisions being made during a crucial part of their life.

I had a choice at 20 years old.... have sex with this hot girl I really liked (even though I didn't have a condom), possibly getting her pregnant, or pay for college.

I gave her a kiss good night, and went home and masturbated, didn't have a kid while working at a fast food job.... but I was able to finish college.

and that's just one choice that can affect your life negatively, if you don't watch out.

the 38 y.o. burger flippers today.... I flipped burgers with them 20 years ago. The opportuntity to escape was there, some, like myself, seized that opportunity..... some, screwed that hot girl that I never got a call back from, and ended up knocking her up.

Ironically, guys like that thought they were doing better than me.

I also used a 35 y.o. woman named Della, as my example of what can happen if you don't make good choices. She made a nickel more than me, but was 15 years older.... I'm sure, today, at 52 years old... she's crying "raise min wage to 15$ an hour.... I deserve a living wage too"

Don't stick your penis somewhere comfrtable if you can't afford the potential result, for starters. Second, obtain a valuable skill that employers need -- this way you stand a far better chance of being compensated above minimum wage. You may then be able to stick your penis where you want without fear that someone else will have to pay for your mistake. Third, FFS SHOW UP FOR WORK ON TIME AND SOBER... and with a good attitude that contributes value to the organization. Fourth, be smart with your money. Don't buy that iPhone 9 if you really can't afford it... Etc. etc.. In other words, be a grownup. It's that easy.

Cancer is a disease associated for the most part with old age. Dogs shouldn't be fed the same diet as human beings. Lots of stuff that isn't problem for human beings will kill dogs out right chocolate in sufficient quantities will kill small dogs and make even large dogs sick

Also onions. I can't eat a burger without extra onions. I might give my dog a bit of my burger, but never with onion on it. Onions are death for dogs.

---The conclusion drawn is not conjecture or my own inference. It was the opinion of the veterinarian that treated the animal.

---I apologize for not giving complete information in my OP as that did not allowed for you to have a complete assessment of the situation I cited.
