because I'm not a supporter of a footie team (or 'squad', as I think they like to be referred to these days - more macho, doncha know! ) Seriously though, who can watch and listen to this and not acknowledge that mankind is completely insane? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36603525
Iceland is a small country, less than 400,000 in population. They are celebrating having a soccer team represented in this tournament. if you're not into sports and don't understand why fans get so emotional about a particular team, well it has to do with tribalism. The sporting team represents their "tribe." It's ok to not like sports, this doesn't make you a "non-person."
Cerb, Cerb, Cerb. Who do you think you are fooling? Just because you don't like football doesn't make you any less tribal than them as we can witness often here. Iceland is a small country that is playing in a tournament for the first time. Try listening to the Danish commentator from 92 when they won the final against their mortal enemies the Germans. Iceland gave us this which is more than enough. http://www.sagadb.org/index_az Enjoy the reading.
I tried to get into the England v Wales match, left me completely uninterested. Rugby on the other hand..........
Nonpersons are Goot !. Us Exisitentialist learn to feel The Stranger as Life has a way of pushing itself unto one.Cats understand this as they also have a way of teaching their owners about most absurdity in life.Living sincerely and authentically without need for the typical trappings of peer pressure or joining a clique. The guiding imperative for an Existentialist is that Humans are " Individuals " therefore conscious beings. Not bound by labels or stereotypes or preconceived categories but rather their true essence { being a member of the Human race } and allowing for their Conscience to be their guide. How one's consciousness can fashion their mindset and value system and thus give greater meaning to ones' life. Camus and Sarte wrote in that style and to great, yet somewhat simplistic effect. It is profound to be in the company of an Existentialist. Thus say I.
Read what I just said to Herkdriver and you'll see that I have nothing against sport per se; I used to be a club player of tennis so I obviously appreciate watching the pros purely for their prowess, but I don't harbour any 'loyalty' to any of them - 'may the best man win' is my rationale. But I simply don't understand this 'support' mentality (the tribalism??). I realise I'm the one out of step here but I'm cool with that. I wasn't complaining in my OP, just being a bit sardonic.
I know exactly where you're coming from, living in Melbourne and not supporting an AFL (Aussie Rules) team many people look at me like they would an alien... yet I love sport, just don't feel the need to be fanatical over it.
My barber said he always looks forward to doing my hair because I'm his only customer who doesn't 'talk bloody football'.
