Bull. Nothing has changed and it’s nothing they couldn’t have done before if they'd wanted. Surprisingly, a commercial business has every right to withdraw a free service from customers if it doesn’t work for the business. The whole thing is being spun up by trolls, opportunists and idiots because it makes for cheap copy, fulfils their political fantasies or bandwagon are fun to ride. I’m certain absolutely nothing will actually change after December 10th and certainly nothing along the lines of the “death of the internet” fantasies being spun up (yet again).
If YouTube implements anything draconian they will just annoy a great many people who will then look for an alternative venue. That opens the door for those alternative venues to grow and compete with YT. Not a smart business move but since when has that stopped corporate GREED?
Which is why they won’t do anything draconian. They’ve certainly messed up a few policies and not communicated brilliantly but they’re ultimately trying to figure out how to make a fundamentally flawed business-model work (like much of the commercial internet) and they’re subject to human error. Of course, so are all the people misunderstanding, imagining or simply making up stories about what this policy change means. I still don’t see anything actually changing as a result of this and once the next “story” pops up, this will all be forgotten and everyone will carry on as before. Ironically, the only winners here are the advertisers on all the sites generating cheap copy from the manufactured controversy.
