I'm A Gun Owner

A pack of wolves come on your property to eat your livestock and pets, what are you going to reach for?
My wife packs a .357 in her purse when she goes to town, but at home her AR-15 is her companion.

My handgun is a self-defense tool. In a real life situation, seeing an aggressive individual with AK-47 150 yards away will result in me taking one of the two strategies: run or hide. If I run, the farther I get the lower your chance to hit me, especially with AK-47. If I hide, you will be the one closing in on me, getting to a firing range of a weapon with much higher killing power.

I bought this gun with thoughts of self-defense. I don’t have dreams of attacking military or police. And this gun is sufficient enough to fight back in case I’m illegally attacked by those forces.
In case of invasion you hole up in your house and shoot at the soldiers trying to enter your house. That might be enough to kill their desire to enter your place and will get them to move on.

Who are you to determine how many rounds one needs to defend themselves against a home invasion robbery where multiple suspects break in?

I live in a suburb and now in a 55+ Condo so my .40 cal and my wife's 9mm is just right. Now I have woods in back of me so an attack from the back a shotgun or an AR platform or mini M14 would work. I I lived on a farm of course a semi auto carbine, rifle, shotgun would be ideal. Schit even a RPG would be nice or a US made grenade launcher would fit the bill.

 

If your home is attacked by so many individuals that 35-40 rounds is not enough, and the fact that when they find out you are armed doesn’t stop them then it does not matter how many guns you have - they are there to kill you. If that’s the case then they’ll make you hole up in one room and will burn your house down waiting for you to come out or to die in fire.

Show me a case when someone needed to fire 100 rounds from 150 yards to defend self?

 

There is more than one kind of self defense. Pistols are fine for home defense, but are you certain that is the only kind of defense you will ever need? People have been lulled into complacency thinking our military is un-defeatable and we will never have to defend our homeland as civilians. The fact is that we are being replaced as the worlds preeminent manufacturing and technical innovator, and China is on pace to be equal with the US in military power in less than 20 years. What makes you think it is not possible that they could develop technology that would give them the advantage militarily before that?
The Chinese have made it clear their agenda is to replace the US as the #1 world power, and if you believe they would not take us out given the chance then you do not really understand the situation. Our last line of defense as a Nation is an armed citizen militia capable of guerilla resistance in the event of invasion. To give up our ability to muster a defense at the same time the threat is exponentially increasing simply does not make sense.

 

1. Rifles/Shotguns are way more accurate and easier to shoot than handguns in high stress situations.
2. It is not up to you on what type a gun/magazine/ammo one uses to defend themselves.

 

Then I would take out as many of them as I can and link back up with my friends and family in Valhalla.

 

The reason cops have switched to AR's over shotguns/pistols is because the AR penetrates less.

Actually, in a high stress situation and where people you want to shoot are within your house, chances are good that they might get close enough to you to start physically fighting you. In that case it’s easier for someone grab your rifle then to grab your handgun.
Handgun is much better for home defense than a rifle. Shotgun is pretty good too because you don’t even need to aim to wreck chaos.

 

The AR with a 5.56 mm is a much higher velocity over a 9mm pistol fired round so the 5.56 mm will penetrate more. I know that there are AR platform type with 9mm pistol loads or you can get .45 cal in an AR platform. The velocity of a 9mm or a .45 AR rifle or carbine round will have a higher velocity than the same caliber from a pistol.

So what are you referencing ? I am using common sense but maybe you have better info?

 

I would think physical barrier would deter animals that can’t climb from crossing.
Anyway, I am not against guns. I do think some things need to be limited - high capacity magazines. And limiting the way guns look would help too with some deranged individuals.
What Dems want is ban on “assault” weapons, which has no real technical definition. I would never support that. I would support laws that prevent guns from looking too militaristic. I would never advocate banning rifles, shotguns and handguns.
If you need to shoot far, like in farmer case, or for hunting, a normal looking hunting rifle is more than enough.
For home defense a handgun or a shotgun are good solutions.

Sadly, there were more than enough people who took a militaristic looking rifle and shot at people from it for no good reason. Maybe eliminating the cosmetic looks of the gun will at least limit the imagination of those sick individuals. And I’m talking about just cosmetic look - a rifle is a rifle, it shoots and does the job. It doesn’t have to look like something a terminator used in a movie.

By the way, gun manufacturers could join together and agree to limit AR-15 caliber to .22LR. That would eliminate 90% of fatalities in mass shootings where guns like that are used.

 

I think (again, think, don’t know for sure) a 9mm handgun bullet that stopped in your body will cause more damage than a 9mm bullet from a rifle that passed right through.

 

A rifle or carbine will fire the same caliber bullet at a higher velocity than a pistol. But pistol ammunition fired from a rifle or carbine will not have as great of a velocity as ammunition designed for rifles. It is a matter of amount of propeller and design of the cartridge.

 

You do not know much about animals do you? Why do you care what a firearm looks like? Do you realize that the need for a military grade weapon by citizens to act as a last line of defense from military invasion exists? Do you know what the unorganized militia is?
