I would say french fries but in fact, we don't even pretend to have invented the "frites", we think it's from Belgium. Belgian people too...
People from the north of the north (so not in Normandy) eat a lot of french fries (and it's a tradition).

The whole west is living a major crisis. Aren't the USA in a deep crisis if you wish to become great again ? It means you think you lost your greatness.

I think the french civilization it's at the end of it's life, and we're only the shadow of what we were at the 19th century. But we're not the only one who changed, the whole world did too.

I don't think we could avoid the death of french civilization in the next centuries, and so the last thing we can do is to leave the scene of History with some panache.

European civilization however died and reborn many times. The roman empire died, but renaissance happened.

I hope that french civilization will behind with enough panache to be a glorious reminder for the future generations and not something who will be forgotten.

You and your people died at the French Revolution.

    Then many wars.

    Your men died.

Women died later, even if not actually.

Now you fatalistically wait for the end.

It may be enough to get you through the next muslim attack.

But it wont be for your children.

Lets never pretend we are both from the west, frenchie.

For where you die I live.

I forgot, I never lived or travelled to the U.S, unfortunately.

If we died at the french revolution, how a french scientist, Nicéphore Nièpce invented photography in 1832 ? Why we welcomed one of the most brillant scientist, Marie Curie, gave her the opportunity to study and reveal her smartness. And we shouldn't forget Poincarré, Langevin, Laplace, ect...

We will live still some centuries but every country will disappear at the end, even the roman empire disappeared and every country will in the end disappear.

Nobody can choose if they will live or die, the only thing we can choose is how we act.

Muslims is not what will make France disappeared. We are still one of the most advanced scientific nation, and it's not some god-crazy barbed people who will make us disappear, but death, even nations can't escape that.

People like you are the reason USA is becoming so weak*. And when I says people like you, I don't mean conservative, I mean rude american who like to insult every other country.

We won't die now. Did USA disappeared in 2001 ? No. Terrorism will not kill us but we're an old civilization, and old things end to die. We have I think two centuries left. We will not disappear into islam, we will disappear in something unknown for the moment.

*When I say USA became weak, I say it too because american said it first, saying you want your country to be great again is an admission that your country is weakened.

You obviously don't know ANYTHING about France, French, and European politics! Your comments are stupid and denote a myopic view of the world. You must be a Trumpster!

Excellent! I must agree. Trump has brought out the worse in about ⅓ of Americans. . .and they are floating on the swamp!

For a long time, I thought it was "cream that rose to the top!" But that's only if you are looking at a quality product, such as milk! Now, I realise that, in the swamp that is Trump's presidency, it is **** that rises to the top!

The ugly americans are back in force. . .and it is too sad for the REAL Americans, because they are many and they are good people.

    Another stupid comment.

Every French person knows that it is not and has never been FRENCH fries. . .it is actually BELGIAN fries!

And in Europe, we do not make ridiculous equivalencies. . . we can have both FREEDOM AND Fries!

How do the French feel about us English buying so many French houses? Do you resent us for it? I have a tiny house in Les Herolles in Limosin inherited from my father. I am toying with the idea of retiring there.

We don't talk of that too much. Some people are a little bit angry that the british don't do the effort to learn some french words, but it's not honnestly a big concern.

Furthermore british don't always buy houses of zones where we lack of houses, but more in the countryside.

It have just to be noticed than both british and mainland french are not welcomed to buy houses in Corsica. You would be always welcomed if you just visit.

In my experience the British buy run down old houses that have often been empty for years. They restore them and give them a new life. Like you say these are houses the French don't want to live in, in rural areas away from centres of employment . They help keep open local shops and services.
Those who buy holiday homes are less helpful. They do not add much to the local community and like you say make little effort to learn the language and culture.
Rural property is very cheap in France, retired British couples can sell their modest houses in the South East for huge sums and buy large houses with plenty of land and have money left over.
Let's hope Brexit does not mean an end to this choice of moving to France.

Sorry I didn't saw your answer. About English, most french rather like UK, but as far as I know, we're aware that british don't like us. They were however this old rivalry who is still a little be here. About Italians, people like a lot italians and a lot of french people learn italian (aswell spanish).

About Israel, if most french people aren't antisemitic, a lot of people are rather pro palestinian. However the political elite is totally pro Israel.
About antisemitism, It was almost died, but it appeared back with muslims.

    The thread is still open.

What do you think about French bureacracy? The latest being that all vehicles have to carry a sticker identifying what level of air pollution it generates (mine's 1 so I'm a goody). Costs 4 Euros, 68 Euros fine if you don't....

I didn't red them ! I however dislike Islam so I don't care if he criticize Islam. The man is reputed brillant, however, when he is at the tv, he act rather strangely.

It's mostly because of the pessimistic way of thinking of the french, I think, and too because our psychologist for a lot of them rather bad. Their is very good ones, but they're not the most of them.

I've just found out that it's illegal in France to take a DNA test to find out your ancestry. I'm not sure why. Do you have any information about this?
