ha ha ha ... good one :D

PS: I have several brown friends who are back and forth to the US regularly (for work), and not one has experienced the least discomfort as a result of 'border control'. They're treated exactly the same way they were always treated. A well educated, well spoken man in a suit is not likely to attract the wrong sort of attention. A white dude, presenting badly, is more likely to be pulled aside for a quite chat.

There has been many reports regarding border control harassment, I did not accuse them of racism (as your post indicate)however I do believe they profile many including all activists accross the board... for all issues including environment etc
You also may want to see the Mem Fox thread in Australia section, she a 70 year old author (as you're aware) harassed due to her children's book on multiculturalism

According to my contacts (those who travel regularly to the US, and have done for years), there is merely an increase in general security .. no specific targetting of 'foreign looking' people. Do you have a problem with airport security? FTR, I've had bag searches in the past. I may not be happy about it, but I regard it as a small price to pay if it means actual crims will be caught via the same process. Not sure why Mem Fox was so indignant. I guess she regards herself as Super Special.

This google search contradicts your sources... there are even Facebook pages asking for the harassment to stop.

They're scared to travel due to terrorism.

Example #2,538 of how liberal immigration policies have unintended results.

New norml for now perhaps. Things will likely loosen a bit after things quite down, say perhaps 10 years from now..... Probably less....

Things happen. To be honest, we're likely just 5 years out from a natural disaster in the region that would have a similar... If not worse, monetary loss.

BIG PROBLEM is Democrat mass murderers and terrorists, such as Hilary Clinton's supporters of the Orlando mass murderer and the NYC bomber.

Yeah that's not really a thing. Unless tourism as a whole is in decline around the world, this is yet another Trump problem.

The only people supporting the Orlando shooter were ultra-conservative Christians.

Well, I'm sure Canada would have loved to have you visit, even though you know very little about their government, LOL. If you think the current Liberal party led government is "quasi-fascism and creeping authoritarianism" I can't imagine what you would have thought about the previous Conservative party led government - probably outright fascist perhaps.....;).

Bingo. If you're scared to be harassed by the scary warry Americans, stay home then. And for god sakes don't ever visit Israel if you don't like being questioned at customs.

You're talking as if my posts were about me personally, my observation was not about myself :) As for the travel advice, I have already told one American where to go, perhaps you should go with him

This, precisely. I've not yet even heard of, much less personally known, a single case of someone being afraid to travel to the US due to tougher airport security. I have, OTOH, heard of and know of MANY cases of people not travelling due to terrorism.

Elephants in rooms are visible to all but the most ardently wedded to the narrative.

BS. Terrorism, poor economy, uncertainty about the world, TSA harrassment, all kinds of things contribute to a decline in international tourism. More people are staying close to home.

Next you will blame sunspots and lactose intolerance on Trump.

On the contrary, it's because I know so much about Trudeau's authoritarianism that I made this decision ... not to spend $10k in that country. If you're not yourself aware of Bill C-16, and M-103 - and understand the full legal implications of both, you're not in a position to comment.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you're basing your position on the perceived hugginess of the Rich Hip White Boy's 'politics', rather than the complex legal ramifications of things like compelled speech, and other sinister thin edges of wedges.

Yes, Homeland Security and all its tentacle organizations harass innocent people, law enforcement in general harasses innocent people.

But your profiling claim is exaggerated. I had never heard of Mem Fox so I looked her up. She clearly states she was detained at LA airport over a visa misunderstanding, not over some multiculturalism book. She said that the immigration people had no idea who she was until she was interrogated, when they realized who she was they let her go.

She was badly treated - but that's how a police state treats people.

LOL, so, extending rights of freedom is authoritarian? And proffering a bill against islamophobia is a bad thing? These are the actions of freedom lovers, not authoritarians. You know f**k all about Trudeau and Canada. Quite frankly, the country just might be pleased you'll give it a pass - they wouldn't want to be infected with the disease of hate.......

The US have been profiling for years what's new is that it's now worse than ever.

As far as Mem Fox goes, she's a 70 year old lady who wrote a children's book about multiculturism, which is how she ended up on border control's radar. She also received and apology from your government, which contradicts other's claims that she was overreacting. She also expressed her concern and sympathy with an Iranian grandmother in a wheelchair having to go through the same harassment.

The Trump slump? Tourists say they're scared to visit the United States

I don't disagree that she was treated poorly and wrongly, she deserved and received an apology, and she did not overreact.

What I do disagree with is the claim that she was targeted because she wrote a book about multiculturalism. Mem Fox states clearly in her interviews that her experience at LA airport had nothing to do with her book but was over immigration misunderstanding her visa, she stated that as soon as they found out who she was they let her go.
