Now Iran has threatened this before and it has never happened. That said - Iran has never had a complete oil embargo either.

Get ready for 200 dollar barrels of oil should this happen and 9 dollar/gallon gasoline.

And do you think - should Iran make good on this threat - that this would start a war.

While Obama was getting cozy with the Iranians they were attacking our warships over there.

If Obama were half the man Trump is, Iran would have been dealt with already, not been given gifts.

    Hmmm....

    7 Submarines

    1 Destroyer

    6 Frigates

And a dozen or so really old "missile craft"

One carrier group would absolutely annihilate anything they put in front of us.

one carrier group would do squat since its not the fleet you have to worry but land based missiles/air force in that straight

Well ... not that I like the Iranian regime ... but does anyone really wonder that Iran is resisting and taking countermeasures?

Yeah, how easy it all was, we had seen it in the 1980's, when Iran took on the oil tankers of Kuwait.
Uch the Persiche Gulf is such a huge body of water that the things are stationed where land, not count ...
Everything will be just a walk and a trifle ... all not worth mentioning, you are the mighty USA and all others are incompetent and far inferior idiots.

Yep, the obvious counter move in my opinion too. The ball is back in Trump's court again.

I saw this yesterday.. The Commander is just shooting off his mouth. Blocking the Straits of Hormuz wouldn't last long enough to make it worth it to Iran.

His government had already announced that the US wants to impose a sanction and ban on oil from Iran and wants to force all others to follow this US sanction or also to land on the sanction list if ignored.

This guy is really breathtakingly outrageous ... but at the moment he is learning it slowly after ending the Iran deal and trying to force all the others to follow the US with it and that he can forget that and that he and the USA does not have the power for it.

How about this as a unifying compromise?

Do a Tonkin Gulf again ... but with a bit more truth to it.

Goad the Iranians into doing something stupid ... tempt them out by sending a boat near their territorial waters, supposedly crewed again by weepy transgendered 'sailors', but actually crewed by proper military men, and properly armed ... and when the Iranians bite, destroy their entire navy and all shore facilities. (Very important to let, ie trick, the other guy into firing the first shot. Ask Admiral Yamamoto.)

And then leave the Persian Gulf for good. Let the Arabs and the Persians decide who's boss there. They're both both adherents of the Religion of Peace, so I'm sure they can come to a pacific agreement.

Everyone thinking about Iran should consider this: the Mullahs are becoming more and more unpopular in Iran. The older conservative strict Muslims are dying off, and younger modern-minded Iranians are becoming the majority. They want to live in the modern world.

But ... the religious theocrats have all the guns, and the corupt 'Revolutionary Guard' has a huge vested interest in the Iranian economy.

This won't last forever ... eventually, there will be some sort of split within the ruling power that opens up the possibility of revolution ... perhaps some terrible defeat for Iranian forces overseas or some unwinnable war they get bogged down in (that's what did it for the Greek and Argentine and Portuguese dictatorships).

But the more the current theocracy can pose as stalwart defenders of Iran's national pride, the longer they will stay in power. So we must not provide them with any excuses to appear as eagle-like guardians of the nation, rather than what they really are, buzzards feeding on it.

Right, I don't think Iranians have ever "attacked" US warships in reality. And I quickly looked it up and I see confrontations were there, which is a good thing that they get resolved without escalating, US ships are pretty much in Iran's backyard so it's kind of understandable that they want to make sure you don't go to far. It's not like US has always been a friendly partner and it's actually a step forward that diplomatic channels exist that allow these situations to get solved without escalations. It's a sign of humanity.

I got the perhaps false impression that your statement was much more loaded than this and that you meant that Iran needed to be dealt with for a whole list of things.

What is it that Trump wants from Iran exactly?

Does he want them to give up HAMAS, Hezbollah and the al Houthis, or what?
