Yes, but then it'd be a formal war with Iran. And I hope this time, rather then "regime change", we drop the niceties and do the Napoleon thing. Since the Straits is a huge geopolitical necessity, and an asset for the West, having it in Western hands is ideal.
The Europeans would be among those most harmed under the sanctions, and the closing of the Strait, and make no mistake, they'd blame us for the ensuing crisis. "The West" isn't a single entity with singular interests. Indeed, the alienation of the Europeans is one of the costs we would bear if we spark a war with Iran.
You're right, clearly allies. Those protests that Trump lauded? Ahmadinejad was one of the leaders. My point, as should be obvious by now, is that replacement of the clerical establish doesn't necessarily bode well for the United States.
More than just Europe. India, East Asia, and Turkey are all extremely dependent on oil coming out of the Gulf, including Iranian oil. They have very good reason to be unhappy with what we're doing.
True, You’d think they’d support a more stable regime in Iran, instead of backing a murdeous terrorist regime seeking nuclear bombs
They'd support not having their economies thrown into a crisis. Whatever you believe, all of them believed that Iran had ended their pursuit of nuclear weapons per our agreement. American right-wingers have a bad habit of stomping their feet when faced with geopolitical reality. It's a bad habit that will see them lose power again.
Like I said, all of them. Ignore the truth all you want bud, but it's staring you in the face. Trump is on the verge of making a catastrophic error that would make Bush's mistakes look cute.
They have some rather sophisticated missile defenses so both the fleet's and squadron's anti missile defenses would have to be damn near perfect. But the outcome is inevitable and swift its conclusion.
It's far past time to undo more Obozo policies, like build more refineries. We will be just fine if we are proactive instead of attending Paris Accords and other asinine "Green Deal" circle jerks. Let the rest of the globe do some "housekeeping". Screw the middle east and the camels they rode in on.
And it is quite possible that the other countries involved in the Iran deal will back them. After all, this is a direct result of the Trump administration trying to break Iran, for Saudi Arabia's benefit. Saudi Arabia kills their own people.
I like this. Don't forget nuclear power. We have the tech and space to add to our nuclear infrastructure.
Yea and Hillary will win in a landslide. Your predictions are wrong more often than they are right. How much oil do we import from Iran?
At least once a year Iran announces it is either going to close the Straits of Hormuz or send a 'fleet' (two or maybe three ships) into the Atlantic. This has been on for at least a decade. NOTHING HAS COME OF IT. ZERO. The Straits have remained open and no fleet of any size has sailed the Atlantic. These announcements are invariably met with absurdly over the top responses from Americans who apparently forgot the last ten times this happened without result. Invariably they react hysterically and attach their political agenda to the hysteria. When Obama was in charge they were proof that America was weak. When Trump took charge some of the same people still blamed Obama (I think at least one of those is on this thread). Now we have the anti-Trump brigade joining the party. It is not an improvement. Oh, and Iran also likes to announce new weapons systems - stealth aircraft, aircraft carriers etc. They are always faked up models. Here are some tips for all those involved: * Get a historical memory longer than a goldfish; * Learn to use internet search engines before you do your Henny Penny routine; * Treat any announcement from Iran as propaganda; * Stop letting Iran outsmart you; * Stop attaching your stupid political agendas to every damned thing that happens in the world. It makes you look stupid (or more stupid in some cases). Seriously people, being the grownup in the room gets really tiring after a while.
More likely first three nations on that list will condemn the US for whatever action it takes to keep the passage open.
The entire world has not become psychopathically murderous as the US has. First of all you are trying to starve them to death because they kept an agreement involving the UN and your President and if they in an effort to save the lives of their people shut the straits you are going to enjoy physically murdering them. I doubt anyone would be therewith you, maybe us Brits and the French, we still like to believe we are also imperial powers by going on the rampage with you but I am not sure even we would and why on earth would you think the Japanese are still going to be with you given you intend sanctioning them. The US is on its way out possibly in part because Trump makes too obvious what it is doing. I hear Trump was told with Iran, just start starve them and they will come running to talk and you will be remembered as the great peace maker. I think he very probably was told that because right near the beginning I remember him asking if they were ready to talk. I wondered what on earth would make him imagine that. Instead I hear that the moderates who made the deal and who were very open to the West have now become as hard as the extremists used to be against the US. Even with you threatening more sanctions against those still trading oil with Iran word was that this would just hasten the end of the US dollar being the reserve and used for oil and that when this happens you are financially finished and given the way you have treated the world it i unlikely there will be many if any to hold out a hand.
The way I perceive it: Would there be short-term pain? There would be short-term pain, and yes the Europeans would blame us. But if we, or the Europeans were to gain control over the Straits, the Western Coalition would gain significant gains that would upset the temporary(and I admit substantial) economic and political fallback from the Iranian action. It's better off in OUR hands, then Iran's. And it's even more better off in our(US) hands, then anyone else's.
All that they need to do is block the strait by sinking several ships at its narrowest point. It's not a naval battle with little gunboats resisting big warships.
for 25 years according to Dr Trita Parsi I think he describes well here what will likely happen (if Trump does not get rid of Bolton and Pompeo which I keep reading are the people who are currently running the US, not Trump) Will Trump's Iran Sanctions lead to WW3
