So for those regarding Iran on equal terms to the West, how many ordinary citizens posting criticism of their government end up being told their mothers will soon be mourning them and immediately afterwards wind up tortured to death in a government prison?

Before his arrest, Beheshti had complained on his blog of being threatened by the authorities. "They threatened me yesterday that my mother would wear black because I don't shut my mouth," he wrote. Beheshti had been arrested previously for his activism.

Tyerik is right. We don't do that to "ordinary citizens". First we demonize them. Then we can torture and kill them.
Here's an example of the type of people the US officials love:

Here he is speaking of his love & respect for South Ossetians 4 hours before beginning an attack to kill them all.

I don't know anyone that puts Iran on equal terms with the West. Anyone who does is clearly an idiot.

Idiots could not have done as bad a job as what we've done over the last 100 years or so.

But you're right Serfin. Iran is not on equal terms with the USA. Iran is on superior terms to a nation that has forsaken it's Divine Mandate “to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them,”and to have “a decent respect to the opinions of mankind” Declaration of Independence 1776

If you're actually making that assertion, you really don't know anything about Iran.

America has done plenty of messed up things in foreign policy, but we're not a theocracy. That, in and of itself, is what separates us from Iran.

And honestly, if you really think Iran is superior to us as a society, no one's going to stop you from moving there. As much as you seem to hate this place, I'm surprised you haven't already.

I don't normally go with the "go move somewhere else" response, but I reserve it for you specifically because you're like a broken record with your complaints. It's always Jew one thing and God another. If you view everything in terms of some divine mandate, then you really are better suited for a theocratic society.

I prefer looking at things in a more rational sense with a focus on things like economics, civil liberties, and trade policy. Save your Godspeak for someone else.
