America has become overly politically correct, I am pretty sure this happend when suddenly it was incorrect to say "merry christmas" in public, even though (no ture source) i would guess more americans celebrate christmas than ever before.

PC does not exist, in the same way morals do not exist due to their subjectivity. What PC is really is an attempt to define morals. Who pushes PC? The radical liberals, they invented it, they pushed it, and they have infected much of beaver cleaver America with the virus of PC. Yes America is too far too PC, however the 'world' is terminally PC, in the last stages of the disease (in where the host dies).

Anyone with eyes connected to a brain can see that the PC police are running amuck. What pisses me off is when the world PC police attempt to brow beat the USA into being as sick as they are. I am tired of the USA held ransom by the world. I pine for the days where our currency was backed by Gold and we were far more isolated and self sufficient in our means to produce goods etc. Today with most of the manufacturing jobs shipped out we are becoming a nation of min wage hamburger flippers! Anyway yes, we are far, far, FAR, too PC. The USA should get its moral and ethical house in order stop its expansionism and military adventures etc (but help our allies when they ask).

If we could do that, then we would be the originators of we call PC, hopefully be trusted again, and looked up to again as a nation that is good in our intentions and endeavors. If we could do that the world would follow our lead without us jerking them around with an battleship/aircraft carrier enforced choker collar, or brow beat the smaller nations into submission by the threat of economic sanctions. THAT is the America I want back, the America I remember from my youth.

Yes it makes me want to throw up when stores began renaming Christmas trees and other such BS. They mistook tradition for something else. If those parasitic godless goonie grinches are not careful they will destroy the host they suck off of.

What an amazingly pointless post. I guess it does show us FiddlerDave's idea of communication.

I was in a meeting with people talking about relations between different ethnic groups. I was speaking and suddenly people were shouting. I looked around to see what was happening and they were shouting at me. I had used the word, oh, god, I'm so ashamed, oriental. That's what they were shouting about. Some were actually shouting, "Bad word." That's political correctness. Consider discussing people with...well, it isn't a handicap because some don't like that word. It isn't a disability because some don't like that word, either. We were supposed to say "differently-abled" which is ludicrous.

My personal favorites are the "code words". I understand that socialist, if referring to President Obama, is a liberal code word for black. The same goes for stupid, inexperienced, unqualified, and racist. They are all liberal code words for black. Isn't that convenient.

    Aaargh!

It nice that we want to get along with one and other but it has been riding the thin line of our rights of speech and policy making.

I had to vote in this one. To me, one of the most nauseating aspects of leftist bs is pc. It is indicative of their penchant for intrusion. Leave us the F alone!

A couple of specific questions. Do you believe that offensive comments require intent or is a person saying they were offended sufficient? As I mentioned before I was screamed at for using the word oriental and I referred to someone as handicapped once and a person said he found that offensive. So, does it, in your opinion, require intent?

I was in a group to discuss race relations in our town. During the breaks, all the blacks clustered together and all the whites clustered togehter. I tried to get some of the white folks to mingle and they were afraid to. One said, "I've been watching and I don't know how to do that handshake thingie." Another said, "What if I say something wrong and start a big mess?" I personally think the worst part of PC is the discouraging of different people talking.

I personally believe that America has it just right. You have to keep in mind that it isn't the norm to apologize every third sentence for something that you said. That isn't what political correctness is supposed to be and that isn't what it is. The people who believe that to be the case and push their version of being PC are a fringe group. And what do we know about vocal minorities? Often, entire demographics are judged by their annoying or harmful members, which is exactly the case for the PC crowd.

We're doing decency just right. It hurts no one to bite your tongue and avoid saying something ignorant or hateful.

It's not about saying ignorant or hateful things. It's about being picky and domineering. Saying handicapped is neither ignorant nor hateful. Neither is saying oriental. Now, saying redneck is ignorant and hateful but it's politically correct. Calling men pigs is fine. Refering to jews as f@@king jews delights the liberals.
