I don't fly or own the flag but I do see something that is often overlooked and that is being mean spirited. And that also is a two way road.

So Bo and Luke Duke were White Supremacists who celebrated slavery with the rebel flag on their car?

For me it represents the 10th Amendment
of our Bill of Rights protections from "the Federals".

    Conveniently ignored today.
Health. Education. Examples of NOT Federal powers per the 10th.
California did a better job of indigent medical care before
    LBJ's Medicaid.

We need Supreme Court judges who are NOT
    career Federals.
Maybe more State types such as Earl Warren of California
Or even, NOT A Lawyer sorts with other NOT A Lawyer
academic qualifications. Such as Constitution Historian. Or nearly.

Slavery was manifested in the Confederate Constitution, the flag stands for it and with that is a symbol of slavery.
Some say it is the battle flag, what did they fight for, for a Country, which enshrined slavery in its constitution, a symbol of slavery.

It is not about the cause of the civil war, there were many, but it is what the Confed enshrined in their constitution, slavery of the Black.

Yes it is part of the US history and nothing to be proud of and if one is honest, real honest, to be ashamed of, a serious dark mark on the US history, its like flying the Swastika.

Funny how people that claim this do not claim the US flag "represents" the genocide and conquest that happened under it. It's somehow "different" Manifest destiny and stuff...

Most people who fly it now don't do so for hate. However, they DO fly it in the name of historical revisionism. They have done more to "destroy history" than anyone has by taking down statues.

The Confederacy seceded primarily over slavery. They founded a new country primarily over slavery. These are objective historical facts. If you fly a Confederate flag, you are either celebrating the same cause or you are engaging in historical revisionism.

Because the US has stood for something other than slavery. The Confederacy seceded over slavery and they founded a new nation with slavery as its "cornerstone." As a nation, it never stood for anything else and this is what they primarily stood for. Yes, that is different. Not "somehow." That's historically different. They even bragged about it being historically different and lamented the equality implied by our country's founding.

Of course the Civil war was fought over the "right" to own slaves. Cotton was king and slaves were wealth. The experiment that is our government came to a bitter conflict but eventually a better system for all. The experiment that is our government has had .... And still has ..... unexpected conflicts and evils never expected by our founding fathers. Like Gerrymandering and propaganda.

The USA was founded on broken treaties, genocide of the natives and conquest of their lands, tell yourself that's "different" if it helps you rationalize that bloody cornerstone.

The USA was founded on more than broken treaties and genocide. Most of the "genocide" wasn't even intentional, much less the cornerstone of our society. Slavery as the cornerstone of the Confederacy was intentional.

So symbols mean different things to each and every "beholder", correct?

    I knew you'd say that.

Snowflakes think the confederate flag means "hatred" and "racism". To an average southerner it simply represents "the south".

The U.S. flag means "peace & democracy" to those who think it does but to others (with a legitimate gripe) it represents "genocide & conquest". Go figure.

Oh! Tears of anguish and pain! EVERY symbol means something different to each and every one of us. The Beatles sang:

    "Please don't wear red tonight
This is what I said tonight
For red is the color that will make me blue
In spite of you, it's true
    Yes it is, it's true
    Yes it is"

    So! No more red!

Wherefore art thou Confederate flag? Very few places, rarely seen.

At what state house does't thy stars and bars now fly? None.

Do more than a half-dozen men yet yearn to shed their blood for you? Probably none.

What chance have you of inspiring the South to rise again? No chance at all, I'm history now.
