Clearly it is a very long process - hence the 1000 or more years of Horror after the Church got power. To this day certain segments of Christianity - in particular the religious right fundamentalists - still do not adhere to the main teaching of Jesus - the rule that "Sums up the Law and the Prophets" = Do unto others as you would have them do to you/ treat others as you would be treated.
