So, you want to pay more and more and more taxes? Where does it end? Do you know how much money the federal government rakes in per WEEK? I dare you to google it and find out for yourself.
In other words everybody decides if they are a slave or not depending on what they think is 'reasonable'. Now I don't know a lot about slaves, but they aren't usually the deciders of their own enslavement. Anyone who does not like their tax rate, or the form of their taxes, or what they go to, or how they are collected screams victimhood. Now they are calling the rest of us slave owners. Nope. they are whiners, and babies.
sorry but someone that thinks paying taxes equates to slavery is one angry person, angrier than the ones that argue against the point. anger is not the right word to use in my case, it's disbelief. I find it unbelievable that anyone would equate paying taxes to slavery but hey, we have a diverse society with diverse opinions. To me, it's simple. WE created government WE agreed to taxes as a society (not everyone, but most did) WE pay taxes for security (national defense and a safety net, and other stuff i think is not necessary) This Country has been the greatest Country in the world WITH a federal government and without it, we probably would've never achieved what we have achieved. the government works FOR US, we elect the people that run the government we could abolish government if we wanted to, but we don't, because as a society we agree to it and want it. for the minority that don't want government and don't want to pay taxes, TOUGH LUCK, try convincing americans of what you want and then vote for politicians that will do as you want. I'm happy, i feel it's my duty to contribute to this Country and i'm certainly not a slave.
Yes, there is a limit of course. There are limits to everything. If you make me work to support your lazy self, then you are using me and labor as a slave to your own needs and desires.
Nobody said anything about abolishing the government. A lot us want them to get a handle on their spending and perhaps lower our taxes a bit. Is that unreasonable?
This is an interesting take on the subject. So, if a person sees slavery as a duty, then, there is no slavery? I will also remind you that you have previously refused to consider the individual when talking about rights, instead going with the view that the majority, or rather, society as a whole, has decided that certain rights are alienable. So now you think it's up to the individual when it comes to taxation, as in "if I consent to it". Sorry, but you have already conceded that society doesn't need your consent.
Almost HALF of my paycheck goes to the government in various taxes. Maybe if the government didn't overtax us, then so many people wouldn't HAVE to collect social services, which are supported by our taxes. It is like a never ending circle jerk of stupid.
Well, since you have no idea of his "tone" then perhaps your imagination is working overtime? And you are getting off topic. The topic is NOT other posters.
What would be an interesting disclosure in this thread - but I cannot rely on leftists to be honest about it - is what tax bracket each respondent pays. What do you pay - total - in taxes annually, Old Guy?
Depends on tone. You certainly come off as really super anxious to avoid answering a question you should be easily able to answer if you were on the winning side of this argument. Do you deny it?
Drama queen? There has never been a single tax or government institution in all of history that has not had 'benefactors'. They skim off the top of contracts, or they have cushy jobs, or are a part of a bloated burearcracy. its true in every form of government, and every military, and every police force, and every judiciary, and executive, and legislature. It was true in Rome, in Greece, in China, in Japan, in monarchies, in oligarchies, in communist systems, and fascist ones, and democracies, and theocracies. You get pissed when they are poorer than you are, not when they are wealthy.
this is a key point some people don't seem to factor in. I always hear 'pay for you' but taxes are paid for everyone's benefit. No Country like the USA can possibly provide national defense or a safety net for people in need without taxation. You can get away with this in a small island like Bermuda or Bahamas but USA? All these people complaining reap the benefits of taxation every single day in their lives - security/police, use of roads and highways etc... they don't seem to realize it. Complaining about taxes without a good or realistic alternative to a government funded by taxes is just arguing for the sake of it. What is the alternative? I haven't heard any, as of yet. Another key point is that government works for us, so it's like saying we are slaves to ourselves, so basically everyone that doesn't want to pay taxes is a slave to those who want to.
Obviously the alternative is a government funded by voluntary donations. Your second point about the government working for us is naive at best. That's the premise that the country was founded upon, but it's been a very long time since that was true. You might as well say that prison guards are working for the prisoners.
That argument would hold more water if everyone paid the same percentage per dollar earned. We did. For 100+ years. State taxes can support a Federally-based military. Of course they (we) do. This is about the amount taxed, and the unfairness wrought with progressive taxation. All that you're describing is fully able to be supported through State taxes, and allow the people to retain far greater and more direct control of taxation levels. You've never looked. Federal Income Tax should be abolished. Any income or property or use taxes should be collected strictly at the State and Local level.
Your desperation is apparent. Like I said, I'm not the one that wants people punished over taxes. You do.
