Open carry evokes emotions and too much attention. Whenever I go to Outback I am always carrying concealed.
I have the option where I live of carrying open or concealed. When in town I always go concealed. I found the article I linked to be interesting as the guy in the story was a Law Enforcement Officer in uniform. Seemed rather strange to ask him to leave.
Looking down the sight of an automatic weapon in the dark at 3AM in close quarters and the only thing he's going to frighten is his family and the only thing he is going to hit is the sofa. He's also yielding the wrong end of the broom.
Why do you think it's an automatic weapon? What makes you think it's 3 am? Have you heard of weapons lights ?
The type of comment I would expect from a "broom wielder". I can't vouch for the guy in the picture and what he will see at 3 A.M. or what he will frighten. I do know, if I have to get up and grab my AR at 3 A.M., my family will not be frightened and if I shoot I will hit what I aim at. Thank you for your concern.
Moar baloney. I fail to understand why the Anti Gun folks always predict failure on the part of those that defend themselves with firearms and predict success on the part of the criminal assailant. Typical.
Nobody bothered to read the caption or look at the photo huh. That's OK guys, doing two things at the same time can be difficult for some people.
You use "Nobody" rather freely there. I happened to look at the photo. I actually posted the photo. I can't be sure but I am going to assume the guy in the photo is a law abiding citizen and therefore would not have an automatic weapon.
Well lets say it is a Pre 1986 Civilian transferable AK variant he purchased in 1984, He would still be a law abiding licensed machine gun owner. Second case: it is a common garden variety Semiautomatic AK varient. Either way, he is well prepared to defend himself.
But let's get back to my posting of the picture with the guy with the AK. First It was posted as an ongoing joke with Dr. Who. The broom was intended to go with the "mop and whistle". If you still want to take issue with the picture let's break it down. Initially the picture is what I would call sort of tongue-in-cheek. But it is intended to make fun of the gun control people by asking if the homeowner would be better off defending his home with a broom. The guy has a common weapon that many people own and is in a stance to use it. It's not how I would be holding the gun but I don't think it is bad. He appears to have good control of the gun and has both eyes open to observe his surroundings. Most homeowners I know are familiar enough with their homes so they wouldn't be tripping over things in the dark. Most gun owners I know would not be shooting the furniture or walls; only the bad guys. Gun owners I know do not have families who would be afraid of dad moving through the home at night with a rifle. Most people I know live in homes with guns, they are not afraid of guns. Because they own guns they are not afraid of criminals either.
I understand that. I know that. If you understand the "ha-ha" in it (at the cost of "the gun control people") then why are you so sensitive about my funny reply? You're not the only who's allowed to joke. Or are you?
Anybody who goes through all of my posts (but very specifically omitting the one where I told you that I am a Vietnam Veteran, by the way) really needs help. Seriously! By the way, I studied at UNM on the GI Bill. I guess I took advantage of your Army just so I could risk my life, huh. I have seen much death and destruction, not only in Vietnam but also in Beirut, Rhodesia, Iran, and Cambodia. I don’t think citizens should own guns. Whoa, you can’t handle that? There are more shootings in the US than you can shake a stick at and I don’t see people getting murdered with many can openers. It’s called “shootings” … you know ….. it’s what you do with guns, not pointed sticks. If you want to argue that other countries have guns but still have a low percentage of shootings ……… what do you think that indicates? ‘Duh’, maybe? You’ve got these guns, see? And you’ve got these people who are shooting up the place left, right, and centre. Kindergartens – primary schools – high schools – colleges – universities – post offices – churches – road rage – drivebys – shopping malls ---- Jesus in heaven! So allow me to recap: There are 2 elements here. Guns and people who are shooting their fellow citizens like it’s going out of style. So it looks like guns and Americans is a deadly combination. I suggest that guns be banned in the US until they can learn how to deal with the fact that others don’t always agree with them. Now – what was I saying at the very beginning of this post? Oh yeah, that’s right.
So er.. how many human bodies riddled with bullets and dying have you seen? I've seen plenty animal bodies riddled with bullets and dying. Animals I wanted dead. I find running after them with a spear a real arse. In my country there is a legal right to own a gun. Is there a moral one, hmm, that's subjective I guess.
I saw a body that had been run over by an APC in Panama. I still drive. I hunt, so I've seen dead victims of my shooting. I still hunt.
It is very thoughtful of you to submit this and at least the last dozen earlier examples of personal attacks with no "on topic" reference at all. You are a man who not only offers tips but contributes "by example" as well. It is greatly appreciated.
Yes, in Military service, combat medic / etc... And numerous times Emergency Medical Services / LEO, under fire... Hunting. You are incorrect about infatuation, it is about utility, I carry fire making devices and tools and other items for survival. Example, the AR-7 Survival rifle, .22 LR, all parts fit disassembled neatly in its small plastic stock. You fail to see the importance of survival, I have, lots of folks have tried to kill me or abuse me from a very early age, I decided early on not to be a victim anymore, I am alive because of this determination and determined spirit. That is how I survived my first attack at age 9 otherwise I had been killed by the older boy. You do as you see fit, so will I...
Give it a rest for God's sake. You have a terrible complex and paranoia. When I got out of Vietnam ALIVE I wanted no more to do with hero-worshipping and playing "big shot". I don't have to prove anything to anybody. If you want to do that crap you go right ahead but I am not impressed. So you can stop trying to compete with me. You can't.
Why do you think that your position is or should be universal, or that understanding the utility of a firearm is paranoia? To hold that position is to ignore all of the self defense uses of firerarms inside and outside the home that have occurred.
Hi guys! We are talking about whether we think guns should be allowed in the hands of citizens. I think citizens SHOULD NOT own guns but if you think they should that's cool too.
