I don't think people should own guns, but I don't think we should take anyone's guns away. I just think we should work towards a future where there are fewer guns, and eventually none. Even if it's 1000 years from now before they are all gone.

The same is true for physical superiority. Anyone who is able-bodied, is capable of exercising control over someone who is not able-bodied. In other words, those who are disabled, and subject to protections under the Americans with Disabilities Act, is vulnerable to abuse by those who are not disabled, and placed at their mercy. Do you advocate the disabled being at the mercy of those who are able-bodied and predisposed towards violence?

Give that man a Silver Star!!!! In the place where I lived before, I was pretty durned sick of all of the people who were trying to convert me to participation in their little militias. When I got here, I tried pretty hard to live without guns. I would prefer to live that way. One fine day, I was out photographing a ghost town and minding my own business. Then came a pack of drunken idiots on ATV's, shooting in every direction. I laid one of my tripods on top of the other stuff I had on the hood of my car, and held it like a rifle. They saw me, and abruptly changed their behavior. I realized then that if I am to enjoy my freedom of movement, I have to be prepared to deal with people who have no regard for decency, the law, or for me. That's the way of the world, at present. It would be a good thing to see people becoming more gentle, caring and civilized, and to see guns just disappear because we don't need them anymore. Don't expect to see that happen in 100 years. I give it more like 65,000 years, if we manage to exist for that long without annihilating the planet.
