But what he says is that the present concepts of time necessary for such complex changes according to present understandings, especially in Genetics, makes it a mystery how almost all the phylums we know now to exist appeared within the short frame of time, the Cambrian Explosion. Darwin said he wonder if his theory made sense because of his own doubts on this same point. This new book, Darwin's Doubt makes much of the issue in great detail. It is a biggie against evolution theory right now.

William Herschel worked out how to measure the universe by measuring the parallax errors in stars and such. He was 100% right and his technique became the gold standard during the era of optical astronomy. His only problem was it took a 100 years for someone to come up with optics good enough to measure at the precision he wanted
Well as I mentioned earlier in this thread, the Cambrian explosion seems to be more a slow burn than any major radiation of life. As the studies continue at the Ediacarra Hills site suggest much of the Burgess Shale discoveries had been around for a quiet a while. I think the reality is life had been rebounding from the Gaskies event around 570 million years ago
A person can visually watch the Evolutionary Process happen right before their eyes using a cheap microscope, a few prepared slides with Bacteria on them...some sugar-water and some bleach. If you use the sugar-water to grow the bacteria upon a slide then place a small drop of bleach upon that slide...harvest the surviving bacteria...regrow them on another slide with sugar-water...then add a drop of bleach again...then harvest...prepare another slide...bleach...harvest...etc...several more times... ....after a while the bacteria that survives the bleaching that you keep harvesting and regrowing will eventually become a new evolved strain of bacteria that is resistant to Bleach. This is EVOLUTION occurring right before your eyes. There is no argument over the reality of EVOLUTION. Evolution is a FACT...a REALITY...and no matter how many times some people will say it is unproven do so...will not change the fact it is a Proven Fact of Reality. AboveAlpha

This is because we keep having Extinction Level Events. 570 Million Years is more than enough time to evolve a vast and extensive eco system on land and in the air and sea. What those who attempt to discredit Evolution state are such idiocies as...How did something as complex as the Human Body just come into being? It didn't just come into being. It is the culmination of Multiple Millions of years of cross species evolution and since we now have mapped the entire Human Genome...we can compare our genome to the genomes of other species to see just how we evolved and from what species we came from. OK, now I see. So, Gaskiers Event was the earliest of several periods of widespread extinction. [FONT=Verdana,Tahoma,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-serif][SIZE=-1] apparently due to an ice age. Of course, the human body evolved over a long period of time, and nothing so complex could possibly have just sprung into being overnight. Now, what I fail to understand is how the periodic extinction events somehow disprove evolution. If I recall correctly, there was one some 300 million years ago that killed off most of the amphibians, another some 60 million years ago that wiped out the dinosaurs, and some argue, one going on today that is wiping out most of the higher non human forms of life. seems to me that events like climate changes wiping out the dinosaurs, and then those evolving into modern birds, proves evolution rather than disproves it.

All I can say is I'm not buying any of it..all anyone need do is think of this. We came across the frontier in covered wagons some 200 yrs ago right ? Then in 1969 we stepped foot on the moon ! OK well can somebody kindly tell Me exactly what the hell have we as a race been doing for say the past few thousand years or say 10 thousand ? were we in some deep mental coma somewhere waiting for the right time to step into existence ? It just doesn't seem correct . It's as if we were dropped off just a short time ago ...am I crazy or do other's think this way ?
Other people probably realize there is more to Earth than just the United States. There has been plenty happening, just not on the North American continent
knowledge evolved And as knowledge passed from mind to mind (words/math - articulation), the comprehension enabled many to continue the pursuits, with or without the grace or confinement of people who held beliefs. The proof is the population explosion of the last 200 yrs. Mankind began to think for themselves, versus having others tell them what to believe. I consider the pinnacle of evolution as mankind comprehending itself, to the letter. Which necessitates comprehending what we are as a life, within nature (existence itself). A method of grounding this is to note that mankind created the 'word' (math/symbolism - to articulate). Another method is to use your imagination: if you walked thru Jerusalem, side by side with jesus and you had a bic lighter and just flicking it on and off, to show the crowd...................... whom do you think they would call a 'god'?
