It's in Donald Trump's best interests to plea guilty.

... or until they plead guilty.

So you don't believe that people are innocent until proven guilty.

Agreed, but what does that have to do with my comment about the jury? You do realize I never claimed he is guilty, right?

Of the many allegations and investigations we have seen of politicians in recent years, the allegations against Trump regarding the classified documents are the most significant I have seen. What is baffling to me is his lack of cooperation, even after it was known that he had these documents. The fact that he kept them, lied about them, refused to relinquished them, and even relocated some of them while the National Archive and the Justice Department were demanding the documents be returned is just astounding.

What was he looking to gain? Honestly, if he had just returned them as soon as he was asked, I think he could have avoided charges altogether. I don't even know what defenses he has left, his lack of cooperation makes no sense.

I do see these security breaches as significant.

But, while he was president, Trump constantly refused fully legitimate subpoenas for information by congress. He blockaded progress against his election officials who were unregistered foreign agents. He used his power to defeat the courts by simply delaying all action.

It's FAR more significant that he worked tirelessly to slow our government from working in the way that it was designed to work.

I'm not claiming these were all cases of breaking law. But, our government works on trust and respect for our form of government - for democracy, for checks and balances, for honest negotiation, for cooperation in favor of America. There aren't laws on everything. After all, it would be hard to imagine that it would even be possible to make such a body of law and then use courts to force proper behavior.

Our government simply doesn't have the time to prosecute every time a subpoena is flouted or other misbehavior takes place.

    >>> Trump showed the way to make our America government a worse government.

And that is MONUMENTALLY worse than just failing to keep our most secret information secure.

I doubt it would ever get to a jury trial.. To publicized, to many biased people to ever think you could get that many jurors that could honestly say they haven't followed this slippery sidewalk of bullshit :)

His major win would be to slow the process down (which he has proven to be outstanding at accomplishing) and then, God help us, win the next election so he can just shut the whole thing down.

I actually don't thing that this is a bad idea but I am sure he will never do this (admit guilt). IMO, Judge Cannon will delay this trial until after the 2024 POTUS election but it's still very unlikely Trump will beat Biden unless something, out of the blue happens. He simply does not have any support in the middle of the political spectrum.

Not a chance. He may get convicted, but the jury doesn't impose the sentence, the judge does, and it will be appealed, and once a Republican is in the WH it will get commuted (not pardoned).
I don't think that is in the cards. Hillary and Biden are clearly far more guilty than Trump, and they aren't even charged. As much as those with no life other than hating Trump want to believe this, I view some sort of dreary incarceration as pretty much not in the cards. The guy spends his life surrounded by Secret Service, it's just not going to happen.

Interestingly the fact that it was announced that the Biden Administration was going to arrest his opponent that leads him in the polls didn't help Biden's reelection odds, it hurt Trump's and it outright improved RFK's and DeSantis'.
