There's quite a few businesses that will need remodeling.

This man is to the point and as honest as can be.

Black people realize he's truthful and a growing number of White people realize it too.

I'm SO glad he nailed it THIS well.

Stop trying to find ALL the faults in Blacks and start looking inward also:

    You are correct.

Too many in this particular forum are in denial. They want to continue imagining that all of Black people's problems emanate FROM the same. In reality, White Americans and certain components of American culture (anti-Black racism, institutional racism, White privilege... etc.) have historically been a TREMENDOUS problem TO Black Americans.

It's time for more White Americans to at least begin being honest and do something to reverse the very effects that they are (for now) either oblivious to or desiring to propagate.

The consequences will be literally devastating if people don't take responsibility for their SOCIETY. Yes, I would agree that African Americans have components of these problems that are mostly theirs to mitigate... but the foolishness of the clueless or hard-headed White Americans, who stand back criticizing Blacks (as if from on high), is causing this nation to flirt with disaster.

Anyone who cannot understand that the circumstances and recent events in Baltimore are but an indicator, really needs to do some soul-searching. And one thing is becoming more clear right now, more and more Black Americans (especially the younger) are seeing the picture White Americans are trying to paint (i.e. the status quo is "okay")... and they are rightly beginning to reject it. Things are NOT "okay" and those of us who tried to sell that notion for the last 20-30 years, are reaping the whirlwind as a result.

Truth is, either we realize we're all in the SAME BOAT... and help it to float, or else we SINK TOGETHER.

(random pointless comment about working hard, bootstraps, plantations and modern metophorical slavery, racism is done and gone, black people should be responsible for other black people, and black people are never treated unfairly or differently than others).

There we go, now I feel better and like I have a firm grasp and understanding of the problems simply by dismissing them all with the mantras I've been told to repeat and perpetuate.

Translation: Go with the leftist solution; if at all possible randomly fry a few Whites for the crime of having pale skin, and triple the amount of taxpayers' funds going into welfare and other coffers that in turn produce NOTHING but more of the same dismal sort of lifestyles for the recipients . . . ad infinitum.

    Sweet!

Huzzah! Pretending that the problems of Blacks living in poverty are self-inflicted is the result of ignorance and/or cowardice.

It is a systemic problem with historical causations that can only be resolved when Americans realize it is a problem they all share, and not one some try to avoid by foisting all the blame onto others.

How about a common sense solution instead of one assigned to one group by that group's opposition like what you've repeated up there.

What I'm talking about is realizing, and being man enough to admit, that racism isn't dead, that minorities do have more hoops to go through in some situations than white folks do(the ones that matter towards bettering your future like getting a good job or attending a school that isn't critically understaffed and underfunded). Having that realization does not have to come with the stipulation that it's all white people's fault and all white people are responsible for creating the situation. It does not have to mean that minorities themselves don't have any responsibility for their situations or that white people or the government have to be responsible for supporting them and making sure they have things.

See, the real problem in discussions like this is that folks want a neat and tidy package of blame that they can lay at the foot of whichever person or group they don't happen to like. In this case, it's black people and the government. It's all THEIR fault. It's THEIR problem and THEY have to solve it. Vacuum solutions get bandied about(vacuum solutions are the ones people throw out like "just get a job" where, taken by itself and removed from reality, sounds like a good idea, but the simplicity doesn't translate into real life where it's a whole host of factors that must be considered, not just that one little tidbit judged by itself...in a vacuum).

Nobody is talking to each other, just at each other, because nobody wants to have to admit that there aren't easy solutions, and that there actually are real problems, ones that cannot be wrapped up neat and tidy like a Christmas present.

One can't have reasonable discussions in a public forum setting on this issue because the moment any treasured leftist program is examined leftists go bananas and begin flinging out their patented ideologucally based politcal cards "Racist! Bigot! Molester of small dogs!" I just tossed that last one in because the other two are so old and worn in at this point that they've reached the point of boredom.

Liberals are so predictable. They are like lemmings. And you are right, when cornered they spew the same drivel.

    Please, that's extreme.

The "leftists" aren't perfect human beings... but neither are those on the Right.

It's fair to say that people can disagree... but very unfair suggest that one group is truly and always more disagreeable than the other.

And surely, White and Black Americans have problems in communicating as they work toward the essence of ethnic (and other) problems in this society. Still, I cannot see how honest, open and relatively civil dialogue cannot improve the problems we're ALL seeking to mitigate.

The bigger hurdle was also illustrated in your post, though not on purpose I'm thinking.

As long as you're only willing to acknowledge the short comings of one side only(while ignoring the rest of what they say), you'll never be a part of a meaningful conversation because all of your time will be spent manipulating what you say so that it fits with your predetermined prejudice about what the problem is and who you can point your finger at. For you, it's more important for people to know that you blame leftists than it is to actually delve into the issue. I doubt you even have the interest in doing that in the first place. Drive-by criticism like the kind that's rife on message boards like these is much easier, faster, and lets a person avoid what I'd imagine must be the uncomfortable position of having to admit, even if only to themselves, that the realities of the world we live in cannot be condensed down into the mantras they've been taught to repeat.

    Very good post.

However, the OP is looking for judgement rather than solutions, most likely because he must make himself look superior compared to the less fortunate. You will see that acceptance of the problem is impossible when the problem is denied in the first place, or only attributed to inferior attributes of the individual rather than the system

But you are the one that is wrong. Blacks have no one to blame but themselves. Their problem is they listen to absolute idiots like Al Sharpton that tells them they are worthless victims. If black would get rid of the likes of him and others like him, change their attitude, I have no doubt that most blacks could easily move into the middle class where they want to be.

Then you would simply run into another problem. A Capitalist system of economics DEMANDS that there be poor people. It doesn't say who those poor people need to be, it just demands that there be poor people. There s always going to be a toe to the supply and demand curve of employment. And most economists will tell you that the system operates best at around 3% unemployment - any lower and wages increase and inflation becomes the next problem.

If one group moves into middle class, another will move into poverty (unless a way is found to vastly increase the number of jobs available, but that will only bring on eventual inflation). So, eventually, if we don't want to keep having these cycles of urban violence, we're going to need to find a way to deal with poverty. I'm a fan of the large public works programs like the California aqueduct project - basically an army of people working on infrastructure.

Why have you and your con job pals been so cowardly on this thread? Youve hardly replied to any of the direct refutations from the other side and instead you only post to each other.

Ive had to go to the last page to read you responding to Natty Bumpo, and in that you dont even refute his point.

Anyway, noting the inherent cowardice of the conservative - the black community have endemic poverty and disorder as is the exact same across the world - poor people remain poor for a number of very clear reasons, not even mentioning that we all require someone to be poor.

No idea where you got the notion capatilism demands poor people? One of the craziest effed up notions I've ever heard.
But if you feel your right I would then logically assume your dead set against minimum wage laws.

Yep, I am sure the people of Zimbabwe would also just need to change their attitude, and they, too, could all be just as rich as Bill Gates.

I know of a young man from Nigeria who might just become a role model for young blacks in America?

His article addressing the economic troubles of his nation is quite brilliant really.

    Amen!

I've heard a LOT of brilliant weasels (some close to me) be unabashed apologists for laissez-faire capitalism.

After listening to them for about 30 years... I'm certain their thinking is not as perfected as they 'believe'.

I've peeled away from them intellectually over time and realize the kind of thing you describe above is 'reasonable'. It's the way we need to go, right now.

Considering what we've seen and what even fairly smart people have said over the years, it isn't a far fetched view to take or hold.

What have we seen? I'm sure there are clever explanations by some for the poverty we have seen... but the reality is that capitalism (abjectly pursued) leads to poverty for many. If someone shows me 'tangibly' how capitalism (unchecked) can consistently reduce poverty, I'm open to hearing what they have to say (actually show).

    Minimum Wage... hmmm...

I think it's time to address poverty period. The COST of actual 'poverty' (which we have plenty of amongst the American population) is devastating, due to the myriad problems it fosters. One need not be a genius nor expert to put the pieces of this puzzle together.

Bolstering (subsidizing) the American 'worker' is indeed the way to go. Providing jobs and applying livable wages, surely changes the numbers... but will also improve the nation.

Suggesting or allowing that scores of unemployed and working poor is the way, is just plain BS laced with a very large measure of avarice.

And... the PRIMARY way for people to fight back = REGISTER to VOTE and VOTE BLUE. (Over and over and over and over... for a very long time.)
