Jesus does love football more than stopping poverty and war.

Given all three exist, it's clear that Jesus is apathetic at best about poverty and war. Yet, Jesus permits the insane circus of food and money waste, drunken debauchery, and other extremes of 1st world culture.

There is no damn way we can say Jesus gives a damn about the millions who have died in war or poverty.

If your response is "Free Will," you can stop right there. If I knew Free Will would lead to the evil that has happened on this planet, I wouldn't let it go that far

Leisurely pursuits are the root of all evil? Scripture does only prescribe 1 day of rest. Hollywoods entertainment industry, all of the arts more broadly ... aren't they responsible as well? What you are really saying is that God should not ever allow any pain and suffering at all. The only way to do that is to not create the universe.

You make a secular argument and apply your own mentality in attempting to derive God's motivation. If you want the Christian answer, then you have to consider Gods explanation to humanity - read the Bible. All of the bible, which takes a lot of time, and is why people make the ignorant argument you just made.

In the scope of eternity, life on earth is a tiny little bitty dot. Whatever misery or success a person has on earth seems like a lot while on earth, but afterwards will seem like nothing. Your time on earth is a test, its a hard test, but its temporary. Its like football tryouts, its hard and some of it seems unnecessary, but after you pass you look back and think that was hard but worth it.

And in the Christian view, the good people will be rewarded, the "bad" people will be punished, justice will be done.

 

If I were to invent a god I'd make damn sure he got a get-out-of-gaol card called "free will" or my god would end up being ignored.

That's not what I got out of that statement. What I understand that he said is that if he were God he would so on so on so on.

I'm sure if I were God I would be different but we're not God so all he's done and say that he's not God.
