...hurts like hell. Walking briskly, barefooted, in the living room...whacked it up against the highboy. ****** toe's gonna turn blue. But...the reason I am writing this is: There was a delay between stubbing the toe and the pain. A significant delay...almost a second, I would estimate. I've noticed this before. I'm a bit of a clod...so I stub my toes pretty often. I guess the foot is so far away from the brain, it takes some time for the pain to travel up there. Wish it had taken longer. A lot longer!
You have my sympathy - I know that's painful. Soak your foot in warm soapy water w/epsom salt - m/b that'll help. You wanta talk about pain? Have a friend who fell and somehow during the fall, she broke a foot and her ankle in the other leg. This happened 3 days after her beloved dad died and was making funeral arrangements.
Sorry to hear about that. When it rains...it often pours! My toe is all better today. Can't even remember which toe it was.
You might want to check your feet and make sure you aren't having some numbness or peripheral neuropathy. That being said, a significant blow to your body will not always cause immediate pain. I have remember having an initial 'cold' feeling or numbness when experiencing a significant injury. The real pain came later. Hope you are on the mend by now.
Reading your post reminded me....... About 7-8 yrs ago a friend's young daughter went to the beach w/friends and they were on these ATV's(?) fun machines. Crystal injured/twisted her ankle, but she said not really bad where she didn't go to the dr, but hobbled around, babying it herself. IIRC, It took around 8-9 months for the blood clot from her ankle area to finally hit her heart and she was gone.....as the autopsy showed. Any kind of injury to the lower extremities, even a twisted ankle that won't go away, should not be ignored....as Crystal, unfortunately, found out........
I always wear shoes inside for this reason. Two things I can do without fail are stub the hell out of my toes and crack my knee into stuff.
Very good point!!!! I had what I THOUGHT was a blister on my big toe. I was moving into a new home and just kept walking on it. Come to find out, it was a metal staple that entered the bottom of the sole and just peeked up in the innersole when I put pressure down. What I thought was a blister was actually that thing slowly digging a HOLE in my toe!!! Got a bone infection and went to the surgeon to have it cut off. Luckily the antibiotics kicked in and now I have a funny looking toe. DO NOT ignore ANY injury!!!!!
Crystal's shocking, unexpected death and why it happened was so stunning....she was a healthy, 28 yr old woman and suddenly, w/o warning, she was dead. I called everyone in my family and emphasized to not ever ignore any minor injury to the lower part of body - or any part - if it does not go away b/c it could very likely be a blood clot. And swelling is a symptom of a blood clot...... You're lucky you only have a funny looking toe........
Nope. I'm 80...and in super health. All I did was stub my toe...and wanted to note the delay the pain has in reaching the brain.
Thanks, AS. I'm a lucky guy that way. Up until about 4 years ago...I would often play 54 holes of golf, rather than just 18, walking all the way and carrying my bag! I used to play 36, walking and carrying, and then play three or four sets of tennis. I don't do that any more...but that has more to do with the fact that my compensation for working as a golf starter...is free golf with a cart. KInda hard to turn the cart down. (Good luck with the fantasy football. This will be my first time with FF...and I hope I catch onto the mechanics quickly.)
Walking is undoubtedly the key to good health - and a good diet. No need for running, and at all costs stay away from junk food including fizzies and processed meat products, all of which are laden with chemicals.
So true, but it's all processed foods - boxed, canned, frozen, etc that's bad for you. That crap is loaded w/preservatives, additives, chemicals and a ton of sodium. One of the best inventions they've made is the electric scooter, but it's also one of the worst. Seems like once a person, who's capable of walking for short distances, gets in one, he/she stops walking altogether....and they blow up.
Exactement! As a matter of fact my sister and brother in law pay lip service to my opinions about good, wholesome food then . . . wait for it . . . go out and buy exactly that kind of contaminated junk to stuff into the freezer for their almost-weekly barbeques. Nowt s'queer as folk, as they say?
