Was in Kansas from Friday afternoon though Tuesday noon. Enjoyed Lawrence. Liked the open, liberal feeling of the town, the shops, the bars. went to the Natural History Museum at KU and was really impressed with their collection. Drove out to the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, which was very pretty. but damn hot!!! went to 101 degrees I believe. then went to Manhattan. Was not impressed. But maybe too hot to enjoy it. Either way, I liked Kansas. Hopefully I'll be back someday. btw, its 106 degrees there right now. Eeeek!!!
I've driven through Kansas (I-70W) at least a dozen times. There are very little elevation changes, at least the areas the highway goes through are flat. Illinois topography is actually flatter, but as Kansas doesn't appear to have as many trees, this only furthered the perception of being a flat State.
I think that when you say, "open, liberal feeling of the town", you mean friendly, as the town was probably built and currently run and occupied by Conservatives for the most part.
Progressive? LMAO!!! From the 2012 election... (And BTW... Abolitionists were Conservatives, or "classic liberals", as it was.)
yep, Lawrence is tolerant and Progressive http://lawrence.gaycities.com/overview/ and gay friendly Obama won Lawrence "Obama carried only two counties: Douglas, home to liberal Lawrence and the University of Kansas; and Wyandotte, home to Kansas City and the state's largest concentration of minority voters.
