Not entirely. Debris from exploded fireworks litters the forest. You really think people are able to find every piece of litter in a forest?

Cheryl Schreier was superintendent of Mount Rushmore National Memorial from 2010 until last year. When the big displays started in 1998, dozens of firefighters had to be stationed in the forests nearby to put out fires started by falling embers. Debris from the exploded fireworks shells still litters the forest. In 2016, a chemical linked to fireworks called perchlorate was found in drinking water wells at Mount Rushmore. Levels are not regulated in South Dakota or nationally, but they remain higher than standards set by Massachusetts and California. Schreier said it all added up to a consensus when she was in charge.

    Fireworks.

Dr. Suess, Potato Heads, hamburgers and fireworks.

"This is the big one. I'm coming to join you, Elizabeth."

Biden must be doing a bang up job if this is all the Republicans have to bitch about.

Odd how some people just need something to be outraged about.

I happen to be a fan of national parks not having litter or any kind of chemicals regardless of whether they are deemed dangerous. Nature shouldn’t have any of that. But then again I’m into camping and hiking and appreciate and respect the beauty of our national parks. Maybe you don’t care about that stuff. Meh…to each his own.

Thing is, Elko is 30 miles away. They have fireworks there, where they belong.

I'm thinking life in America will never be good again until we stop using covid as an excuse for everything unpleasant.

Agreed. Probably about a year off.

Life in the wilderness is great. Without fireworks. Fireworks in the wilderness isn't natural, and taking it to court isn't normal.

Fireworks celebrations on the 4th of July is natural everywhere in America. It is part of what it means to be an American. Our founders suggested we celebrate our independence with shows of fireworks and we intend to honor their wishes in this regard forever. Go get em Kristie!

    The tribes oppose it?

Does Canada? Because they hold about as much voice as Native American tribes.

Somebody needs to inform the Native Americans that they lost numerous wars and signed multiple treaties and that their opinion doesn't matter.

There are hundreds of places that don't allow fireworks because of fire and health hazards every year. Yellowstone - no Fireworks.
Yosemite - no fireworks. In fact - no National Park allows fireworks. That was the rule for years. So it's kind of crazy
to get your knickers in a wad over the National Parks doing the same thing National Parks have done for years.

Everywhere? At a paper mill? A dynamite factory?

    Not in the wilderness.
    Yeah, right.

Everywhere people are gathered together to celebrate our Independence Day and their love for our country. If the people from South Dakota and the tourists there for that reason want to celebrate the 4th of July in that part of their state, they should be free to do so. We don’t need a nanny state telling us why we can’t and we are going to openly rebel and defy them every time they try to be dystopian on us.

National parks aren't wilderness. They are developed recreation areas for people. They have been showing fireworks there for almost 100 years so banning it isn't normal. Suing federal government appears to be the only way to get a permit to continue the fireworks displays for another year. Remember your agreement that we should stop using covid as an excuse.

I'm not using covid. I don't think we need fireworks in the wilderness. It's still wilderness, regardless of the available campsites with hookups.
