Do you see a lot of criminals carrying weapons openly in public? I doubt it, considering any criminal in possession of a firearm is looking at ten years in prison just for having a gun.

Law students are a pain in the arse, well some of them anyway. Lawyers are a lot better to deal with.

A little learning is a dangerous thing; Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian Spring:
There shallow Draughts intoxicate the Brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.

    Take it to court then!

This isnt a thread to argue about gay marriage. This is about guns and your right to carry one. I brought up gay marriage to demonstrate (not debate) the hypocricy of the right using one Amendment to talk about rights, then ignoring rights of another. And I may be wrong on HB Surfer specifically, but the vast majority of the RW is like this. And on the oppostie spectrum, the left is just as bad.

How does he deny the right to marry? He holds no position to create law or enforce that I know of. He may voice his belief but that is also protected. Like your opinion. He has 1 vote and so do you.

Before you get upset it is my belief that all consenting adults have the right to choose and marry who they wish. I support the Constitution and BOR completely.

    Do you?

And how would a cop know if he is a felon without being able to check his ID?

He doesnt. But carrying a gun alone is not a reason to stop and ask for ID.

Aaaaand now we come full circle. Once again, I think that (the law be damned) if you are opening walking around with a gun in your hand, a Cop should be allowed to ask you whats up.

And SCOTUS says otherwise, which I agree with. Just because you are walking around with a gun, is not a reason for a cop to stop and ask you anything.

    Deja vu.

I don't care what the SC or you think. It's my opinion and it won't change.

Your interpretation of it. I'm a proud gun owner and I have nothing but respect for the 2nd amendment.

Person walks down the street with a gun in hand. Someone is fearful and calls the cops. The cops have a duty to public safety, and guns are capable of extremely unsafe acts. Why is it unreasonable for an officer to talk to the individual to assess the situation to make sure the public is not in harms way?

How is that any different than stopping someone for walking while black, or for walking while Hispanic in Arizona?

One chooses to carry the gun. I am staunchly 2nd Amendment, but why is a policeman asking you a question or two a problem?

The someone who is fearful should stop watching the glowing orb in the corner of the room. There is no public safety issue here, that is why it is unreasonable for an office to stop a person.

So, do you support concealed carry as well as open carry? Why won't you answer ?

Fair enough. So there is nothing wrong with cops in Arizona stopping every hispanic and asking a question or two, or stopping every black kid in a decent neighborhood and asking what he is doing there?

Shame on the cop for not knowing the law, and shame on his supervisors for not teaching it to him. He could go as far as engage a conversation to check him out. He should not have confiscated the weapon with out suspician, and should have told him upfront that he was not being detained. That's where he crossed the line. Cop could have checked him out without violating his rights.

I'm sure it would be scary as hell talking to someone who was armed, but cops deal with that every day. They know that there are worse situations they walk into that is unknown. Fear is not a good reason to take someone's Constitutional rights away.

But its OK to profile a citizen who is doing nothing at all illegal? Just walking around carrying a gun isn't illegal or suspicious. Americans have every right to do so without being harassed, just like the black kid has the right to walk through his neighborhood, and the hispanic has every right to walk around town without the cops harassing him.

If the law allows it I support open or concealed carry. Depends on the state.

Sorry, you are the third person to jump in on this exchange and I ended up arguing with the wrong person.

My point was for Cubed, who seems to think it is all right for cops to stop someone just for walking around with a gun. Apparently he caught my point and bolted, but Grok and you decided to step in. Sorry I wasn't paying attention to who was replying to my comment.
