I received a notice today as concerning my county taxes. It noted that they are due by February 29, 2020. This reminded me that 2020 is a leap year. I think many people assume that all years divisible by four are leap years. And that is true--usually. But there is an exception: Years divisible by 100 are not leap years. Well then, why was the year 2000 a leap year? Actually, there is an exception to the exception: Years divisible by 400 (even though they are, by definition, also divisible by 100) are leap years. Got it?
Every year that is exactly divisible by 4 is a leap year, except for years that are exactly divisible by 100, but these centurial years are leap years if they are exactly divisible by 400. For example, the years 1700, 1800, and 1900 weren't leap years, but the years 1600 and 2000 were.
when will we have a 'leap month'... it's needed to put our calendars back on track... our weather patterns remain constant (for the most part), however our calendar doesn't keep up, that's why winter starts later (almost 5 weeks) and ends later (by about the same 5 weeks), same for all our seasons... we still have the same average number of days in each season, they just occur in different months now, because our 'time/calendar' doesn't keep up with our actual orbit around the sun...
