They officially served at the time as Canadians though.:)

The movie Pearl Harbor made it look like the US government was sending American pilots to the UK to help out. Man that movie sucked.

And thankfully Tom Cruise's movie about them was never made.

It was a close run thing between you and Panzer - but I feel I must award you the prize, as you were first. Your turn. :)

The most iconic thing in that movie for him was a baseball, but I'm guessing that's not it.

My aversion to Tom Cruise, and to Hollywood in general, meant I (thankfully) never saw it.

    It was never made.

They were going to call it The Few but that would only refer to the American pilots. What a (*)(*)(*)(*)ing kick in the teeth to the surviving Few which referred to ALL of the pilots who took part.

And of course Tom Cruise was going to play a pilot (Billy Fiske I think the name was going to be, an actual real guy) who was going to be like the best pilot in the battle and the Americans were going to be the reason the BoB was won. In reality Billy didn't score one aerial kill and was killed when he accidentally crashed his plane.

I admire Tom Cruise for doing most of his own stunt work. A real daredevil. Other than that he's a disgrace because of the way he acts in public.

You're taking the p-i-s-s! LOL! What a wanker! He was going to make a film suggesting that seven American pilots were a major factor in winning the Battle of Britain??? :omg:

And they claimed it was going to be educational because American audiences would learn about the BoB, but that they couldn't make it about British pilots because American audiences wouldn't watch it and that obviously the American pilots had to be the main reason why it was won.

Hollywood sells. Americans love fiction dressed up as American fact.

    Sorry for the intrusion.

LOL, I promise not to provide you kick that terrible, ungrammatical, American idiom. :-D

You don't hate on people, or beat up on people, or meet with people. The conjunctions are redundant.

Even the sentence "I spoke with Harry about that today," is a nonsense, as it implies that you and Harry spoke simultaneously (which would be very ill-mannered). "I spoke to Harry ..." would impart the correct sense. :)

LOL, it was a joke - I wouldn't presume to seriously advise you on how to speak American English. :)

I would call what you call an eraser, a rubber. And yes, I think Americans call a condom a rubber, but remember - you lot haven't spoken English since 1776! :-D

Cooper had the A-2 contract in the late 80's and the current issue jacket is made by Avirex...

I have to laugh though, I see those around and I'm betting 90% of the folks that wear them wouldn't know an aileron from an elevator...

Same with the expensive "aviator" watches and sunglasses...

I used a Casio G-shock for most of my career and in terms of sunglasses any type of paddle frame sunglasses will be ok, as they are designed to be worn with headsets and disperse the pressure points. They don't always have to be the expensive Ray-Bans, and avoid polarized lenses as they interfere with the reflection from flat glass/plastic instrument gauge covers and often make them unreadable.

History Preservation Associates makes exact copies of WWII and later flight jackets and other apparel. Google them up and have a look.
