By now, we all know about the young woman with brain cancer who has decided to take her life on November first. According to this article - http://madworldnews.com/woman-take-life-november/ - she is newly married.

So let's discuss a hypothetical here. Being a newly-wed, this woman very clearly loves her husband. But she has decided to take her own life because of her medical condition. This will leave her husband, who no doubt loves her and will miss her terribly, a widower. Why should this have to be? Widower is a legal status. It occurs when the law no longer recognizes a person's marriage because of their spouse's living status. How is this not discriminatory? She did not choose to divorce him. She doesn't even want to die. But she feels that she has no choice under the circumstances. So then hypothetically, if her husband wanted to preserve her body and remain married to her, why shouldn't the law recognize this? She already consented to marry him while she was alive, and you cannot really claim that anything her husband will be doing to her body afterward will be harmful to anyone because she cannot be physically harmed once she is dead.

What say ye, marriage equality advocates? Will you organize another civil rights special interest group for this? Why or why not?

I think maybe you need a less passive girlfriend.

And as to your question, as long as the woman went along with it, why not? None. Of. My. Business. Or yours.

. I think your obvious attitude that her body is no longer hers once she marries is far more of a problem here

TL;DR we can't give gays marriage because it would be unfair to the people who want to be married to the corpses of their deceased spouses. Thank you for wasting my time, genius.

    Creative!

Anyway, no. Not that I believe in marriage in the first place, but if I did I think it would still need to involve people. A corpse is not a person. A corpse is the body that a person leaves behind when they die.

I noticed that, too, but I'm assuming that's not what he meant.

If you're asking if necrophilia should be legal, well... yeah, I'm ok with it being legal under certain conditions.

It's a pretty morbid scenario, but if the couple in question was ok with the guy still doing his thing with her corpse.... well, I don't think the state needs to get involved. If you've got some documentation to show this consent was granted, then yeah....

Granted, I don't think her family would be too happy about it.

As for the status of a marriage post-mortem... most of the legalities of marriage refer to things like power of attorney -- privileges that mostly apply to the living. There isn't much involved with the dead other than estate planning. So, being a widower doesn't remove your ownership of your spouse's assets. In short, it's a non-issue.

To the best of my knowledge there are no laws against this.

There are laws against stealing corpses, but for desecrating them.

Then allow them to incorporate corpse ownership into their marriage contract.

Wait 'til Mr.Immortal sees this thread - you'll have 400 posts in 30 minutes. If there were some way to combine homosexual necrophiliac incest with President Obama and BENGHAZI!'d ebola I think half the people here would never ever leave their mothers' basements.

No, it's "life begins at conception, but after it's born we don't care what you do with it as long as it doesn't get any public assistance."

    Closed thread,,rule 11

OK, in the interest of fairness I gave this thread a shot, but after observing the comments I just do not see any respectable debate coming from it, nor the possibility of it.
