Ah...you mean such as universal health care and free education? Or, a comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for most of the illegal immigrants are already here? Or, a limits on carbon emissions to slow the rate of climate change? What will destroy this country is if we DON'T move ahead with these programs and find a way to secure our niche in the global economy.

I completely disagree with every point you made, yes those things you mentioned, the actions you'd take to achieve them and their consequences would destroy America.

This is from the transcript of the July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelensky. It was provided by the White House. The following is a quote from Trump.

Good because I· heard you had a prosecutor who· was very·good and he was shut down and that's really unfair._·A lot of people are talking about that, the way they shut your very good prosecutor down and you had some very bad people involved. Mr. Giuliani is a highly respected man. He was the mayor bf New York City, a great mayor, and I would like him to call you. I will ask him to call you along with the Attorney General.· :Rudy very much knows what's happening and he is a very capable guy. If you could speak to him that would be great. The former ambassador from the United States,· the woman., was bad news and the people she was dealing with in.the Ukraine.were bad news so I jtist want to_let you know that. The other thing, there's a lot of.talk about Biden's son,. that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great.Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you ·can look into it ... It sounds horrible to me.

“What you’re describing is a quid pro quo,” asserted a reporter. “We do that all the time,” replied [Trump's chief of staff] Mulvaney. “Did he also mention to me the corruption related to the DNC server? Absolutely. No question about it. But that’s it. That’s why we held up the money … I have news for everybody: Get over it. There’s going to be political influence in foreign policy.” http://nymag.com/intelligencer/2019/10/mulvaney-ukraine-get-over-it.html

I mean a 'scandal' in the DEM'S eyes, not mine. Dem's want to say that Trump was only asking Zelensky to investigate Biden for person gain in the 2020 election and NOTHING else. In his call to Zelensky, if Trump had added that he wants Biden investigated because he is a US Senator and any US Senator guilty of corruption would be a bad thing for the country, then I really don't think Dems would think that they had something - although it wouldn't surprise me if they still tried something! However, if on the other hand Trump had said to Zelensky that he wants Biden investigated because he worried that Biden will win the 2020 election, then I would be calling for the man's immediate impeachment. Trump knows perfectly well that if corruption was found on Biden it would give him a higher probability of winning in 2020, however, was this the SOLE motivation behind his request to Zelensky? Only Trump knows.

Well let's be real - IF Biden became the nominee and IF he was found guilty of corruption, it would be an ENORMOUS personal gain for Trump.
However, it would ALSO be an enormous NATIONAL gain because a corrupt piece of crap will be prevented from becoming President. Although, theoretically if Biden was still able to run, I'm sure that many deranged Trump haters would still vote for him, calling him the lesser of two evils! :roflol:

universal healthcare will destroy America? Hasn’t destroyed any of the other countries that have universal healthcare. What possibly may destroy America is our out of control spending on the current healthcare system which is about 17% of total GDP which is way higher than any other developed country.

And Trump did promise great healthcare for all Americans. Like most of his promises it didn’t happen nor was any effort made in that direction.

Biden is a US Senator? And if Trump was really worried about corruption he would investigate himself and his administration.

Libs think anything they don't like is illegal. I had some lib accuse me of "conspiracy to commit illegal harassment across state lines" for posting in a place like this one time, I kid you not.

True. This shindig has nothing to do with Trump withholding funds for a few days and may not even have anything to do with the Dem's pathetic field of candidates. It has everything to do with the question Trump asked African Americans, "What do you have to lose?", and the answer after close to 3 years of increasing prosperity in the AA community. When Dems lose their overwhelming capture of blacks, they are toast ---- and they very well may have ,,, There is nothing to quid pro quo but the Dems' realization that they can't win a national election.

So, perhaps we should call the driver for the Dems' undermining of our democratic processes ,,, a "quid pro Bro".

The withholding of funds, appropriated by Congress, was probably illegal (and it was closer to two months rather than "a few days"). So...what you are arguing is that it doesn't matter if the President breaks the law, as long as the economy is OK.

I don't think he's that great no. The best thing about him is his stubborn pig headedness in dealing with Democrats.

If only he had some moral character to go with it. He'd be pretty darn good.

The House in the Clinton impeachment used the evidence as was gathered and presented by the FBI and Office of Independent Counsel which was subject to the rules of evidence. Those rules apply to federal AND civil actions.

Not without notifying Congress and receiving their OK. Read the Impoundment Control Act. Following notification of Congress, Congress must reply within 45 days approving of the delay. If they don't reply, the funding must proceed as appropriated. They never formally notified Congress or gave an official reason for the delay.

Correllation does not prove causation. The fact remains the money was released with no quo.

Now we need to get the necessary investigations going into what corruption did occur and how high up it went.

You're referencing evidence collected in civil trials, wherein the rules of evidence would have applied. If the Judiciary Committee uses similar evidence (such as that procured by the Mueller investigation), then the federal rules would naturally apply, since the evidence was gathered under federal rules. But, the impeachment process does not mandate that the federal rules must apply. Also, note that Clinton was not "convicted" on impeachment. I would argue that each impeachment (particularly of a President) is unique to itself and the sitting Congress at the time of a particular impeachment is free to make up its own rules.
