No, smoking does not cause cancer in ALL people, in fact it doesn't cause cancer in most people who smoke (and some people who never smoke still get lung cancer) but it undoubtedly does cause cancer in quite a few people who do smoke, more than enough that smoking is very foolish

Now nothing really "causes" cancer per se, present theory goes. Cancer is "in" everybody anyway, and people get cancer when something, usually a persistent irritation/inflammation but it can be many other things, including viruses and bacteria, make the cancer manifest itself. This happens about 3 or 4 times to most people in their lifetimes and it very fortunately doesn't stay or grow most times, though it does enough that it's the really terrible thing it is. This is very probably wrong since I'm not a doctor and this is like my explaining quantum relativity to my little niece when most of the world's best physicists don't understand it and I'm not even that good at math.

It's probably the most innocent of all the small pleasures and yet you get all sorts of really awful diseases from it, like lung cancer but also cancers of the throat and mouth that are not only terribly painful but additionally horribly disfiguring.
