The hippie movement was kind of a back to nature movement. A rather common occurrence were places they called communes. They were small communities, maybe twenty people. Set in a rural setting. They would grow their own food and raise their own livestock. Grow their own pot and mushrooms. Everyone would pitch in and share in the profits. When I was younger, friends and I would climb to the top of a Colorado mountain, and enjoy the view, puffing on some fine Rocky Mountain weed. Except for San Francisco, hippie gatherings tended to be in rural areas. The most famous of all, Woodstock, was on a farm in rural New York.

By cultural Marxist blue areas, do you mean to say, thriving communities.
