You know, I was baffled that some Dems actually got the idea in 2012 that it was only Republicans that make campaign killing gaffes. The seat has been marked as leaning Democratic by most people making elections maps. Be ready to see Iowa quickly move to a toss up. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2014/03/26/the_iowa_senate_race_just_got_interesting_122069.html So how many people actually think that the Republicans will get control of both houses?
That is not an Akin moment at all. At best it is a minor Romney 47% type comment. Is there an actual video of this statement? A video would look bad, but it isn't like this guy is attacking a huge group of people.
Apparently, it is de rigueur in ideological fantasyland to imagine some nameless, diabolical Democrats, Liberals, Libs, Leftists, etc. to justify whatever silly bias you feel compelled to spout.
why do people insist on making comments on a thread subject when they don't even have the common decency and is to dam lazy to read the link that was provided. because if you would have done so it provides a link to the vid. typical lazy ass liberal wants everything handed to them there is you freaken vid that you was to dam lazy to read the posted link to find
Ummm he did not lie! I do not see the problem with what he said about Grassley. The outrage is coming from Republicans that put bachmann on the house intelligence comitee now that is a laugher.
QED. It's them thar Liberals!" what's rattlin' round in thar haids! One might compare Akin's insulting women to Braley's demeaning farmers, but only 5% of Iowans are farmers, whereas 52% of Missouri's voters are female. Were Braley's remarks in Texas back in January dumb? Hey, he's a politician, right? .
I think that's quibbling, I said it was like Todd Akin's comment in that it may kill his election campaign when he currently has an edge, and a big one. The link I gave was an article - and the article had a link to the video. As to what others said along the same lines, this wasn't an insult, and neither was what Akin or Romney said. What Akin said was stupid, what Romney said was that there is a group of people who for a myriad of reasons won't vote for him, and so who whose votes he won't go after. This comment isn't "farmers suck", though it could be stretched into that far more easily than Romney or Akin's comments could be stretched into insults. Now if you want to try to look at how much of the population could potentially be insulted, again, this wasn't a "farmers suck" statement. He smack-talked his opponent because his opponent is not a lawyer. So that's what, 99% of Iowans? ^ People, read stuff before trying to make a bold statement on it. I said some, and wasn't the focus of the thread. So if you don't wish to prove that not a single Democrat had any such thought to any degree whatsoever, to include my friend (who had said it outright, and others such as yourself making statements of a similar sentiment), then remember to post about the topic, not the poster.
Did you read the article, or watch the video? He essentially said to his audience you don't want that farmer on the Senate judiciary committee, not because he's a farmer, but because he didn't go to law school like us. It pays to know what you're talking about, Natty.
It's a dumb comment because Democrats have an elitist image problem and this doesn't help. Not comparable to Akin which was a legendary gaffe but this gaffe still hurts the Dem and turned this race from Lean D to tossup. Ugh.
oh no, it won't have the same effect. Todd Akin was set to win in a landslide and lost in one. Not a 5pt difference "landslide" like partisans like to say when their candidates win, no, this was a huge swing from about a 20pt win to a 15pt loss. I doubt we'll see comments of that calibre of effect for a while. The comparison I was making was simply that this could cost him the election. I think in the end this race will probably be close, and he may still hold the lead after this statement has taken effect, but it could cost him the election.
Aiken's comment was just stone-cold stupid no matter what side of the isle you're on. This was dumb too, but not nearly on that level. This was just a twerp running his mouth.
Uh, because Todd Akin was running a high-profile senate race while Waters was not? No "MSM bias" because the two situations aren't even comparable. In fact, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Are you trying to defend Todd Akin? This seems like a silly post all-around
The part that actually sparked a major controversy - the very idea that there is such an idea is 'illegitimate rape' - is not. People lie - that's about it. What he said medically was just dumb, but the differentiation of 'legitimate rape' was, well, legitimate.
Big surprise. Dems looking down their noses at other people. That is what this guy is running on anyway, I dont see why it would hurt him. Doesn't every Democrat run on "I will go to DC and force the people in this country to do this that and the other because they are too stupid to want to do it themselves". ? - - - Updated - - - She is black. Calling her dumb would be "racist". That is why all the MSM drooled about calling Rachel Jenteal a smart cookie and the like. It is their sick racist paternalism that makes them do this so they can pretend they aren't racist. Whereas a normal person would just see she is stupid, and realize it doesnt mean all black people are stupid.
Yes. You had claimed that you were "baffled that some Dems actually got the idea in 2012 that it was only Republicans that make campaign killing gaffes." I inquired as to who they were. You have yet to name any of them. Akin had said that victims of “legitimate rape” rarely get pregnant, since the female body “has ways of shutting that whole thing down.” Braley had said, "if you help me win this race, you may have someone with your background, your experience, your voice, someone’s who’s been literally fighting tort reform for 30 years in a visible and public way on the Senate Judiciary Committee, or you might have a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school, never practiced law, serving as the next chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee." As I had said, "Were Braley's remarks in Texas back in January dumb? Hey, he's a politician, right?" If you deem scientific lunacy and a callous attitude toward rape victims comparable to suggesting that a farmer is not as qualified to serve in Congress as a law school graduate, that is your subjective assessment to which you are entitled. Ignorance vs Arrogance. Take your pick. I remain unaware of the identity of your unnamed sources that allegedly maintain that it is "only Republicans that make campaign killing gaffes." If you felt that you needed to fabricate that attribution, so be it. These forums abound with references to mysterious, ubiquitous "Liberals!" and such as if they were demonic sprites wreaking havoc throughout the earthly realm, and I, in my predilection for reality, merely strive to determine who they are - if they are. .
Incidentally, admidst the puerile 'My creep is creepier than your creep!' rancour, I found this message an amicable anomaly:
Taxcutter says: Todd Akins made one misunderstood statement. Maxine Waters makes an outrageous statement a week on average. she is a sitting member of Congress and shopuld be held to the same standard, but isn't because of MSM bias.
Sorry I missed the last section of the article in my first read through yesterday. I was on my IPhone and just missed it with the ad at the bottom of the text of the comment. But I am still not convinced this is really that bad. He didn't quote a stat like Romney did to mislead people. And he didn't say something that was just so stupid that it made you wonder if he has a brain like Akin. What this guy did do was make something very personal against his opponent. That is not a outstanding thing to do, but it isn't going to tank a campaign either.
When Aiken said that victims of legitimate rape rarely get pregnant since the female body has ways of shutting that whole thing down, how did you misunderstand it?
