I have been attacked with a knife, I never considered myself defenceless.

 

How about your wife or child being attacked by a knife wielding attacker.

How about three criminals who attack you with knives. Criminals are like hyenas, they rarely attack alone.

In spite of the wyatt Earp brigade hereon I think we’re better off without the shoot-bangs. As cool and sexy as it may be to walk around looking like Snake Plissken on a bender it’s probably not a great idea to add to the weapons bazaar we already enjoy.

They already do mate... our office was in Tower Hamlets and we had a bunch of fruitbats having a barmy over turf last year..year before...?? Anyway, they went around in those dinky little blue WRC Subarus' and I guess some bozos were obviously in the wrong place which led to a wee fraccas, they descended on these lads with hammers and stuff and knocked 7 bells out of them... claret everywhere. The annoying issue was they had to close the Dog and Truck for the day whilst they cleared up!

Good job. That's the only problem when the knives come out. You're going to get cut, it's just a question of how bad.

The point is though while some people may get lucky in a knife fight while unarmed, it's bad odds. Many people, especially a woman in that situation, wouldn't stand a chance unless she had some kind of training.

 

The police aren't going to stop the attacks, but they will get it mopped up faster.

 

Too bad they can't deport all the attackers. Or won't.

I can envision in another alternate possible reality it might have been perfectly normal to carry around a hunting knife in a side pocket on the streets of London, and no one would bat a second glance. That's not the fork in the road the country chose to go though.
