As a general rule, lefty movies don't make much money. Compare the dozen or so anti Iraq War bombs compared to just one American Sniper. Hollywood may be leftist, but they have to make a living and they have to make movies that people want to watch. So even though they will take occasional money losers to make themselves feel good, they have to go with basically conservative stories to win audiences. Sean Penn's The Gunman, a typical lefty America-is-evil movie bombed at the box office the same time that the 'Insurgent" movie (one of those YA dystopias- about an oppressive state system against rugged individualists) cleaned up.

You used the example of Elysium, which in fairness I admit I have not seen, but I don't think it's portrayal of future Los Angeles is some vision that the left wants to promote, Matt Damon or no.

Like the apocalyptic idea. The first Mad Max was bad ass for it's time but still not a great movie. Road Warrior was 'killer'. Thunder Dome had it's moments but overall was a mess. Still debating on going to the theater or waiting till it comes out on cable. (I know, 'still watching cable'?)

I ended up seeing the movie and it was really good. Definitely a few moments where you can smell an agenda, but overall it's a really fun ride. It was like Road Warrior on steroids and meth.

Feminism. George Miller and Charlize Theron both acknowledged it.

I'm sorry you missed the obvious feminist agenda in the film, to which the director and cast all acknowledge proudly.

Cool, I may need to go check it out. I am arguing with the wife on seeing it or Jurassic Park. Will see one or the other on Sunday.

"Conservatives" aren't complaining about this movie, whiny MRA man-children are complaining about this movie. It's an incredible movie, and it's an incredible movie for far better reasons than ideological bias-- it's a cinematic masterpiece and one of the most engaging action movies I have ever seen. It's so metal my eyes bled all three times I've seen it.

I'm still confused as to how Mad Max is an American franchise.

I don't get that either. Cultural appropriation?

I didn't even like the first Mad Max movie. It was actually dubbed from Aussie gibberish to 'Mukin English in the US. However the next two were excellent, and apparently you guys got your act together and started pronouncing English a bit more clearly.

I think Mad Max was better than the Road Warrior, but then again, I like action revenge movies. Thunderdome was mainly great for the fighting in the thunderdome (Two men enter, one man leave)

Thought the story of the first one was good, but the standard revenge picture. What was cool about the Road Warrior was the live action stunts and the visuals. Didn't really care too much for the third one. It had few good scenes but for the most part not very appealing. And Tina Turner, come on?

Don't think there are any women on the planet who could clean your clock? I admit it is rather unrealistic in most cases, especially when some anorexic drama queen is presented as a death machine. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be on the same set as someone who obviously doesn't fit the roll they are playing, but the studio does it's best to stick that round peg in a round hole. I heard for example that Sharon Stone was the ultimate nightmare on Quick and the Dead. Just eye candy on steroids, not much of anything else.

I think a middle or top level pro MMA lady fighter would probably do well(destroy) on the ground against me, as far as stand up I doubt they would have knock out power. I been hit by 200lb male fighters, so I think I could take a hit from a woman.

A trained, well built, solid redneck girl is about as dangerous as any MMA lady. The point is most of the women they are putting in these rolls, just are not believable to begin with, and the ones that are believable, wouldn't get the part because of her looks. She would be considered unappealing even if she was pretty because the bulk necessary to pull it off would place her in the category of fat, even if she wasn't really fat.

Reminiscent of Matt Damon in the first Born movie. He in no way looked like a one man army as depicted. The Rock, now that is the more realistic image of a one man army. Even Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan didn't/don't have the physic of someone who would wipe out the entire gang of elite killers as they usually do in each movie, but what they lack in strength they make up in speed and ability. So they meet the believability level necessary to sell the idea. If it wasn't for what they call in the business, 'the shaky camera', he (Matt Damon) would have looked like the miscast Roger Moore as James Bond, who threw punches like the below average girls throw a ball. Just pathetic to watch.

Bruce Lee did have the power to knock people the hell out, his punch were on level of heavy weight boxer. But he was ones in a generation level fighter.

Thus the speed and "ability" remark. He had remarkable punching power even if he didn't look like he could possess what he had.

It would also be interesting to see how he would have matched up to an MMA fighter since every one of the Jeet Kune Do fighters usually get their asses handed to them pretty quickly.
