I read and reread the article and then I read and reread my post and an no where did I see Santa telling the kid he was fat or me approving of it if he did. Maybe the kid used common core logic and deduced that burgers and fries negatively impact how much water he displaces.

But no, I don't think it was right for a mythical figure who some will say was culturally appropriated and others will say is racist to be part of the village needed to raise a kid, and this certainly shouldn't happen when a federally approved holiday is approaching but whose mere name is thought to be offensive by the usual suspects.

However, will young Mr Pork Chop cry when his gravitational pull prevents him from passing his gym courses such as rope climbing, running and the parallel bars? Or perhaps he might feel offended when the ladies avoid going out with him because he has more chins than a Chinese phone book.

I'll say this again, Santa inferring the kid is porky is not the right time to infer the kid he's porky, but obviously the kid knows he's porky and knows burgers and fries will continue to make him porky. Sometimes a little humiliation is good for the waistline and arteries.

If a nine year old kid is so fat that a Santa has to mention it to the kid, then it was probably a necessity. People need to be reminded when they're being gluttons and porking up. The Parents should be grateful. But I suspect that they are porkers too. Americans are frighteningly fat and/or obese nowadays. So much so that in many instances, cartoonists couldn't draw more ridiculous looking shapes that are common among Americans.

There was a fat man who was approached by a stranger one day. The stranger said, "You are fat and disgusting." The fat man got angry and wanted to fight. The stranger said, "come back one year from today, and we will fight."

The fat man decided he needed to become stronger and faster so he began eating better, working out. Next year, he comes back to the spot. The stranger says, "You ready to fight ?" To which the now-thin man says, "No, I have come here to say thank you for saving my life !"

    By Dr. Mercola

Obesity is a growing concern in the United States; overweight rates have doubled among children and tripled among adolescents. This increases the number of years that they are exposing themselves to dangerous health risks associated with obesity.

Here are 20 diseases or conditions that can be attributed to obesity:

    1. Diabetes, a disorder where the pancreas is not producing enough or sometimes not any insulin. Diabetes can lead to a whole host of other medical issues and obesity is one of the main causes.
    2. Cancer has many different forms and types; many of them could be prevented with more attention to eating healthily and avoiding obesity.
    3. Congestive heart failure is a condition in which your heart can't pump enough blood to your body's other organs.
    4. Enlarged heart is another heart condition where the muscle of your heart becomes larger due to being overworked, which naturally happens if you are overweight.
    5. Pulmonary embolism is a sometimes fatal blockage of an artery. Being overweight causes most people to reduce activity, and after time, lack of activity can result in an embolism.
    6. Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition in which cysts develop in your ovaries. These can burst, causing even further problems.
    7. Gastro-esophageal reflux disease happens when stomach acid and juices flow from your stomach back up into your esophagus. It is common in overweight people.
    8. Fatty liver disease is a reversible condition in which large pockets of fat accumulate in liver cells.
    9. A hernia is caused when the hole in the diaphragm weakens and enlarges.
    10. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to develop or maintain an erection, which can be caused by a medical problem due to obesity.
    11. Urinary incontinence is the inability to control urination. It is frequently associated with obesity, weak bladder, and pelvic floor muscles
    12. Chronic renal failure, meaning your kidneys fail to work, is a much greater risk to those who are overweight or obese.
    13. Lymph edema is a condition that occurs from a damaged or dysfunctional lymphatic system, sometimes caused by people suffering from obesity actually crushing their own lymphatics.
    14. Cellulitis is a spreading infection, involving both the dermis and subcutaneous skin tissues, resulting from poor lymph flow caused by obesity.
    15. Stroke is caused by a lack of blood supply to your brain.
    16. Pickwickian syndrome is characterized by sleep apnea resulting from obesity placing an excessive load on your pulmonary system.
    17. Depression is a condition where a person feels miserable constantly, even to the point of being suicidal. It can be worse for someone who also has a weight problem.
    18. Osteoarthritis is a clinical syndrome in which low-grade inflammation results in pain in your joints. It is caused by abnormal wearing of the cartilage, oftentimes due to obesity.
    19. Gout occurs when uric acid accumulates in your blood. Nerve endings then become irritated, causing extreme pain, which is made worse by carrying extra weight.
    20. Gallbladder disease commonly affects overweight people as a result of high blood cholesterol levels, which cause gall stones.
According to a Surgeon General report, obesity is responsible for 300,000 deaths every year in the United States.

Honestly I'm kind of disgusted by fat people. Another reason I'm glad I don't live in red/south states, which have higher obesity rates.

Generally speaking, obesity occurs when someone is continually taking in more calories than they are burning up thru movement, work, or other activities. Perhaps you know of some other way people become fat?

You should see what it's like in my neck of the woods. The Las Cruces/El Paso area has a severe obesity problem among Mexican women. The local men seem to have adapted quite well and actually prefer those kinds of women, but man, I see young overweight kids all the time. I'm really surprised no one around here ever talks about it. I was at a job fair once and the guy I was with started counting how many couples walked by where the woman outweighed the man and the number was high.

Does pregnancy cause terminal obesity in women? Anecdotal observation from local Walmarts.

Maybe they do, but many women gain weight while they are pregnant.

In fact, mall Santas are supposed to espouse consumerism.

"Next time, have an extra one for me, kid"

As for a gift for this poor martyr, how about some medical insurance?

No its honesty, and it probably would have saved the kids life.

I caused people to lose weight in highschool. I was 6'6" 345 lbs as a sophomore in HS and spent most of my highschool life in the gym, however I had a very low body fat %. I would rail on overweight people all day at school, in the gym, everywhere. I was thanked on graduation day by two people who were well into the obese range, but got so sick of me prodding them they lost the weight so they could prove me wrong.(I was the type to tell you the truth, I'd ask people how it felt to know they'd lose their legs by the time they were 40 from Type 2 Diabetes.) Ones a state champion body builder for S&S fitness/ Arm wrestler for 'Sam's Arms' out of Pike/Scioto county Ohio.

We just spent almost a month in Sicily, did four cities and three mountaintop villages. Walked up to eight miles a day.
Came home and while in one Walmart, saw more grossly obese people than a month in Sicily.
Toss in a two-day tour of Zurich, Switzerland, too, where thousands of people were walking downtown.
America is a sick, obese country....
