You don't appear to understand what's going on in Oregon, Portland in particular. The Pacific Northwest has a long history of violent labor and social protest.

This mindless violence has continued through Democrat and Republican control for more than a century. I think you're applying a rightwing ideology filter to a complex problem.

Wheeler is moving the right direction, Brown is not. More should be done with and to the perps.

Excuse indeed. The mindless violence has gone on periodically since the 19th Century, ostensibly supporting good causes (from a liberal viewpoint). The mayor and governor were hoping last year they wouldn't have to risk splitting progressives, a fraction of whom would have been upset by cracking down early, or even at all.

Governor Brown is the culprit now. Oregon should put enough police forces on the problem to end the violence. As well, repeat offenders in particular should be prosecuted whenever charges can be sustained. Portland should become a place where one doesn't want to engage in arson and looting.

 

Lee, your post would make sense to a rational person, but the far left would disagree with you. For the past year or so the likes of the NY Times, CNN, MSNBC and others have been saying property damage is not considered to be violent. CNN's Cuomo even went as far as justifying antifa's violence. Yet when these same entities and people see a sign that says 'it's OK to be white,' they want people arrested for a hate crime.

It seems you may have missed the exact meaning of a couple of sentences in my OP:

Apparently you've not read many of my posts here at PF that you would imagine I am viewing Portland through a rightwing ideology filter, unless it is only the right that finds the lack of government intervention to prevent further acts of arson, vandalism and looting to be beyond unacceptable after almost a year of it. Surely that isn't your contention. Am I missing something about which political parties Ted and Kate are members of? I already stated that they are an exception. Houston is a big blue city and we wouldn't stand for the kind of crap going on in Portland for even a week. <Mod Edit>
