That would be my guess. IMO, the RP would have to offer voters across the spectrum a deal that is to good to refuse to win elections in blue states from now on, and Republican politicians are very reluctant to do that.

There is a weird dynamic to this Virginia election that I have not seen anyone discuss. Usually the libertarians pull votes away from the GOP. This time, however, the libertarian nominee for governor is a BLM-type, anti-police black woman. I am guess if she pulls votes away from either party, it won't be the GOP this time.
