McConnell on slavery reparations: Not 'a good idea'

For anybody who knows my posting history, this might seem out of character, but I don't think it is. This is very likely to be the only time I say the following sentence.

I generally (partially) agree with what Mitch McConnell said above. The first sentence anyway.

On this single issue, and even then, I disagree with most of his rationales, but I feel too much time has gone by for any true value or penalty to come out of this.... his remark about electing Obama is just stupid. And I KNOW many of you continue to claim the civil war was NOT about slavery, although Mitchy seems to think it was....

Danny Glover is still cool though... Always liked him....

Personally, I find the whole concept of "Reparations" to be a ridiculous idea (and politically unfeasible).

The devil is in the details, etc.

It's a horrible idea, and the Dems are merely talking about it in an attempt to buy votes....it's sad.

Moreover, Danny Glover has been off his rocker for quite sometime....he's a radical and was an outspoken supporter of "Democratic" Socialist Venezula....he would love for the USA to be more like Venezula.

 

This is only an issue because the Democrats and especially those running for President want to keep blacks in their fold and this is another payoff, free money for nothing. Why does the nice black woman who lives next to me deserve my taxpayer money in the form of some reparation? How about the black engineer I work with at a huge manufacturing plant who makes more than me? My ancestors were enslaved years ago am I owed anything?

 

If we are talking about giving checks to people, then I am going to have a cow.

If however we invest in black communities, make college free for all blacks, build skills schools for blacks, create tax-free zones in black areas so good jobs are built there, then I am onboard.

 

All solid ideas.. I'm not sure what is specifically being requested or considered, but direct payments is also what I'm against..

 

if they bring up the Jews and the Holocaust, most of that money was infrastructure for the State of Israel.

any reperations for US slavery should follow the same logic: infrastructure for the black community to prosper and excel.

 

If I recall correctly, they are asking for a single white slave and 20 acres for each black family.

I don't qualify. They are only conscripting progressive whites who have the appropriate amount of white guilt.... that ain't me brah....

 

The reality is that the DNC should be forced to pay it....the Dems fought a Civil War to keep slaves, then spent another 100 years denying them Civil Rights, and creating Jim Crow laws.

Obama however bankrupt the DNC and failed to pay them back....allowing Clinton to come in and buy the party...so I doubt they'll pay up

 

I agree, also as you said, about the reparations, and also agree his comment about Obama was unnecessary.

This reparations nonsense is just more bullsh*t from the left to buy black votes and to push racial divisiveness and identity politics.

Equality means just that. No "reparations", no affirmative action, no special programs or incentives based on race, and no bigotry of low expectations by implying one race can't keep up with another without special help.

Free thinking blacks should be insulted by the idea that they need reparations, affirmative action, special programs or anything else, to help them keep up with whites.

We're either equal or we're not.

"Reparations" is as stupid as a soup sandwich.

yes, the far right and the far left do crazy things that I disagree with, this is one of those things on the left I disagree with

though I think after Trump things will get crazy, Presidents can now claim emergency actions to bypass congress to get funding for things like this if Trump gets his wall through emergency actions

 

everyone woudl be getting a dna test, white or black, that is for sure

then the government would have all our dna on file
