Meteorite Fireball Slams Into Russia, 1,000 Hurt

The blast was so powerful that it was detected by 11 of the 45 infrasound stations of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO)’s network.

"It was like a train falling down from the sky," a Chelyabinsk resident told RIA Novosti.

An update posted on the NASA site estimates that 500 kilotons of energy was released,
that it was 17 meters in size before entering the earth's atmosphere, and
that it had a mass of 10,000 tons -
making it 30 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb.

    I could only wish.

It would get hung up on homosexual marriages with an alien. And alien abortion, and you know it.

They should have kept looking. But I could see a "Mars Attacks!!!" kind of thing banding everybody together for about a hundred years before we are at each others throats again. It would certainly clean the gene pool a bit.

    EXCELLENT point!!! Thank you.

BTW you mean asteroids.. meteors are the name for those that actually do wind up hitting the Earth (including its atmosphere).

Yeah its pretty awesome actually. Its akin to a rock skipping on water, once it hits the dense atmosphere at that velocity.....bam!

Actually they do explode; the massive meteor which exploded over Tunguska was one such example of an air burst.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event

Yeah, see that now - it is fascinating - the very air it is shooting through breaks it up.
