Her statement of her assumption is quite bigoted, glaringly so.

Don't wear 'em but you might consider taking your shades off, she speaks for herself quite clearly, she assumed racism, that is pure utter bigotry on her part.

Lol~ you have to admit that liberalism can be kind of amusing. Here's MO in an interview to talk about her experiences w/racism, she tells her story about a short lady in a store asking her to reach something for her from a top shelf.... and the liberals are demanding that MO wasn't talking about racism, which was the topic of the interview.... why she was talking only about not being recognized.....

    Funny.......

Does the dictionary have a separate white definition and black definition for the word ?

There are only two options here:

Either People Magazine inserted that little story of hers into the middle of the wrong article. Since, according to Michelle, it wasn't racism. She told that same "I'm a regular person who shops at Target" story on David Letterman as some cute little moment that happened to her. Suddenly it's racism?

    Or...

The first lady is a complete, lying idiot for using that story as an example of "racism" that she experienced when there was non there, just like Barack's "Valet" story.

I'm sorry, I know we have to wait for you to tell us what is racist and what is not.

No you don't. We can all read the same definition.

Or just go with what we've learned the past half decade.... "everything is racist".

Since we all seem to agree that what happened at Target wasn't racist, why is either People Magazine or Mrs.Obama making it out to be racist?

    That's the puzzling part.
While some argue it wasn't racist... and others say "where did she say it was?" (duh)... I can't help but think the magazine screwed up and put that comment in the wrong story.

I just don't see a first lady being so blatantly full of BS.
    Well... previous ones, anyway.

I'm hoping you're right in that there was an error made by People.

Because she claimed it was. Perhaps you aren't "black enough" if you can't tell any stories of racism towards you so she had to make something up.

    - - - Updated - - -

You are asking for a comparison but not giving her anything to compare..................how is she supposed to answer with you giving here examples to compare.

I'm still waiting for you to tell us what was the racism in the story she told.

    - - - Updated - - -

How are they doing so, the interviewer asked the question, she answered with her tall tale.

She can give me the examples since folks like you love to tell black folks what is racist and what is not.

It wasn't my story, so I don't need to tell you anything. She perceived it as racism and since I wasn't there to know what happened how can I tell you if it was or wasn't.

It is YOU asking for the comparison NOT her. Give her some examples to compare and where did she or anyone SPECIFICALLY speak to black folks?

Strawman, I clearly said HER story, now where in HER story is the racism. You cry that only blacks can determine what is racism OK then as a black man tell me where the racism is in her story or else admit there is none there. You know what happened, she has related what happened twice so where is someone listening to or reading her story supposed to see the racism.

I don't even know what specific question the interviewer had asked, or what order it was being reported in.

If the question was somthing along the lines of "when have you needed to deal with racism recently"

then her response seems to imply either that she hasn't really had any (and was using that as an ancidote) or that (maybe) because she wasn't recognized as the 1rst lady people are ignorant.

The story that's available online doesn't afford her the opportunity to describe her feelings of her trip, and it leave a lot of room for "creative interpretation".

In either case, close reading of the article preview as presented tells me that its either edited or snipped down to serve as a "preview" of the full article, and to try to extrapolate a coherrent narrative from it is fruitless.

The only thing it's good for is it to use the article preview to tell a tale of a paranoid "racist behind every eisle" FLOTUS" to an audience that are too ignorant to tell whether an article is full enough or written coherently enough to pull meaning from.

Then could you explain why People Magazine is making this out to be racism in their snippet?

Cause' it sells more then "Micheal Obama goes to Target". Its kinda standard fare to bait and switch, it wouldn't suprise me were that the case here, sort of like reality TV show's previews. They'll craft one narative on the preview, then SURPRISE! Thats not at all what it was really about.

In any case I'll hold judgement for both MO and PM until after reading the whole article, and I'd suggest the same to everyone else.

You know, that's something I was wondering too. I think they were put on the spot (?)... and these were the best stories they could come up with.
Or, they just don't have any.

Barack being handed keys is not "racist".
Michelle's story, I can't even fathom what part of that was supposed to be racist.
Like you said... they were trying to relate to "every other black person", by talking about racist experiences.
    ..... possibly.

I'm still hoping the magazine just messed up, and the comment was taken way out of context.

That doesn't excuse Barack's valet story, but at least it would make Michelle look less like a lying fool.

Fair enough. To me it's surprising People Magazine would make the First Lady out to be a bigot.

I truly hope a mistake was made by the editors or something.

You can remove yours too. No one's demanding anything.

Gotta love short-sighted pubs. Batching about everything MO.... From what color her belt or shoes are to how she wears her hair to what she eats.

The rest of us don't concern ourselves with the trivial crap. This issue is totally out of context... But don't let that get in the way.

I wonder what she is wearing today? I'm sure there's somewhere We can find out.

She made herself out to be a bigot by her own words why are you trying to blame it on someone else?

Both the Obamas and a couple posters here are being put on the spot. Looks like one just simply disappeared when the questions got too hard. It looks super bad - brotha!

Seriously, handing keys to Barry is racist? Gimme a break. I've said it elsewhere, I've gone to stores after work dressed formally and I get asked questions as if I work there almost all the time - something that doesn't happen when I come in wearing my sweats. It happens to lots of people of all races. Deal with it, Barry and stop projecting.

That's the beauty of a forum, we can discuss topics both major and trivial. Seriously, if you or anyone else for that matter doesn't like this topic, don't post in the thread. I mean, they way you're putting it is almost coming off as post-shaming. "Anyone who disagrees with Michelle is short-sighted and wrong!" Well - no.

    I missed that comment yesterday.
Of course that magazine wouldn't do anything but protect the Obamas' image.

Either People mistakenly posted that comment out of context..... or she said it.

In only one of those cases does she become the race-card abusing bigot.

Like Bluesguy said.... don't blame the magazine.
