What? Is this true? Johnson's turned a new leaf, defying dear leader Trump?

    Why, apparently it is.

Speaker Mike Johnson is defying fellow Republicans by pushing for a House vote on foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. He faces the risk of losing his job but believes in doing the right thing for history's sake. Johnson's decision comes after months of deadlock and lobbying from U.S. allies for aid to Ukraine. He needs Democratic support to pass the legislation and stay on as speaker. President Biden strongly supports the aid package. Johnson believes aiding Ukraine is crucial to prevent Russian aggression in Europe and is willing to take personal risk for the greater good.

Speaker Mike Johnson said he will "take personal risk" by pushing ahead with his plans for a House vote on foreign aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, as fellow Republican representatives continue to call for him to vacate the chair.

The House of Representatives is expected to vote on sending additional aid to Ukraine and Israel on Saturday as part of the $95 billion military funding. The package is divided into four bills, the third issuing funding for Taiwan. The fourth includes sanctions on Russia, China and Iran as well as measures to allow the seizing of frozen Russian central bank assets to aid Ukraine.

Good for you, Mike. Let's help Zelensky and Ukraine, this is of a vital strategic interest of the US. Damn the torpedoes!

It seems more than a few Republicans are willing to stand up for what is right. I hope that they do.

Johnson is doing what republicans and democrats should have been doing all along. He is creating stand alone bills for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. This allows politicians to vote up or down on each individual issue rather than holding the other issues hostage in order to get one passed.

There is pressure by some republicans to recall Johnson. We finally have someone who is doing it right, but is in danger of losing his leadership position by doing it.

So if he is making aid a stand alone, will he now put the border bill - on its own - to a vote?

Biden has the power to enforce the border. A border bill should be designed to provide him with the tools increase the security of the border.

The border bill should be to build a wall, to increase the number of border patrol and to allow the border patrol to enforce the border by force, including lethal force, if needed. As long as the illegals know they can do whatever they want at the border with no consequences, they will do whatever they can to breach the wall and evade the border patrol.

Ukraine Aid Bill Clears Critical Hurdle in the House as Democrats Supply the Votes

The House took a critical step on Friday toward approving a long-stalled package of aid to Ukraine, Israel and other American allies, as Democrats supplied the crucial votes to push the legislation past Republican opposition so that it could be considered on the floor.

The 316-94 vote cleared the way for the House to bring up the aid package, teeing up separate votes on Saturday on each of its parts. But passage of those measures, each of which enjoys bipartisan support from different coalitions, was not in doubt, making Friday’s action the key indicator that the legislation will prevail.

The rule for considering the bill — historically a straight party-line vote — passed with more Democratic than Republican support, but it also won a majority of G.O.P. votes, making it clear that despite a pocket of deep resistance from the far right, there is broad bipartisan backing for the $95.3 billion package.

Put one on the board for Ukraine and Johnson, put up a loss for Trump and Putin.

Has it occurred to you that we have a different opinion of what "doing right" means than you do. For instance, you think that trying Trump on phony charges is doing right. We believe that no matter how bad Trump is or you believe he is, the justice system is not supposed to be used as a political tool.

Well, not a damn chance! :D But they should if the well being of the border was apolitical.

He's a member of the gang of eight, with the highest national security briefing. He's seen something that's forced him to take a stand now. Regardless, would be good for America if he took your advice.

So you think Biden should do it via EO? You'd be okay with that? But getting back to the original premise, now that he has taken aid on as an individual issue, should Johnson put the strictly border bill to a vote?

He cancelled the EOs which Trump used. Just copy the old ones.

I just said Johnson should put a strictly border bill to vote.

I think Johnson subscribes to the concept of compromise and the more conservative members prefer internal war. I prefer internal war also because I always want congress to do as little as possible. He seems like a reasonable man to me and pretty good choice for the job. I say that despite my preference for crippling congress.

He must have received some assurances from HJ that the Ds would not vote to oust him like they did his predecessor. Politics. Interesting. Took Long Enough. But will it get done?

I have a very special disdain and loathing for former or present military personnel that support DFT.

When does the Democratic Republic of the Congo step up to the plate and get involved and do their part in what is right ? The bolded below explains all you need to know

He needs Democratic support to pass the legislation and stay on as speaker.
