The post I was responding to with my “compared to whom” question claimed 84% of Americans are poor, impoverished, or barely hanging on. You have to have something to compare those metrics to or they are meaningless. Our poor are equal to the middle class of many European nations we are told we ought to emulate. What exact standard would we have to raise everyone to so that the poor would be eliminated?

Someone having less than you think they should have doesn’t make them poor. It’s all relative. Someone receiving welfare today is richer statistically based on consumption than nearly every human that’s ever lived.

 

Look if anyone does not earn enough to meet what it takes to survive they are poor! Whether here or Europe. Not rocket science.

I know lots of poor, for 75 years. I lived poverty until I was 10 years old and industry moved south. You would call that poverty, middle class? Get out if town!
