I'd like this thread to be about misunderstood songs.

    What is a misunderstood song?

A misunderstood song is a popular song that people have come to the wrong conclusion to.

For example, Sting's "Every Breath You Take". For some reason, people take that to be a romantic song. sting, however, has gone on record as saying it's not a romantic song but a song about stalking and he doesn't understand why people thinks it's a romantic song.

So, the first song I'd like to say is misunderstood is Bruce Springsteen's "Born In The USA".

Most people seem to think it is a patriotic song. In fact is is not. According to Songfacts:

    So there you go.

Many other songs are misunderstood in this way, so if you ahve a misunderstood song, why do you think it's misunderstood?

A good example is Lump by the Presidents Of The United States. A lot of people believe it is about a girl. But according to the band Lump is a brain tumor that a friend of the band was suffering from, and no one was sure yet if the treatment had been successful.

Another one is Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" Although a favorite at weddings, it is probably one of the nastiest break up songs ever. And is pretty much him telling his ex-wife what he thought of her after a very bitter breakup

"My little town" by Simon Garfunkel. Thought it celebrated small towns for the longest time. :). It doesn't .

Rammstein "Hallelujah". Nice hardcore track for rock fans who like that sort of thing. Resident Evil soundtrack, nice song to get the blood flowing and get your head bobbing.

Funny thing was when my friend first introduced me to his new favorite song and I heard it for the first time...He knew I spoke decent German so he wanted me to hear it.

Lets just say that song "sounds" awesome but the look on his face when I translated the lyrics for him was absolutely priceless. For those interested go listen to the song on youtube or something and then go and google the translated lyrics...You'll see exactly what I am talking about.

i listened to the song and checked out the English translation.

Are you trying to say that the song is about pedophile priests?

I've never quite understood why people commonly think "Every breath you take" is a love song. I love the song, but it's certainly not a love song. I heard Sting talk about it on some talk show, and he was honestly flabbergasted that people use the song as part of their weddings.
