The retired are not a component of the labor force, and if they were needed by their employers the boomers should be making job openings available for those who are unemployed. Too many people, too few jobs. Has nothing to do with Trump, unless you mean he hasn't built the wall yet.

The "retired" have nothing to do with unemployment, true, and unemployment tumbled during Obama. But Trump spent a lot of time talking about those in the labor force not participating to claim unemployment wasn't going down but in fact getting worse. The labor force numbers he used to get there does indeed include the retired and teenagers still in high school and the number continues to rise and will do so for at least another ten years no matter who is president. He was comparing apples to oranges and his followers agreed with him except now they agree it doesn't matter anymore, it mattered only then.
