You know what? If congress didn't already know this, they would have to be the most ignorant folks on the planet. It has got to be about making money, for congress and for business.

It's not like anybody is accusing conservatives of being compassionate.

Even if you made cocaine & heroin legal in the US that solves only part of the problem.
And that alone is a very dangerous solution.

They should operate a Mexican maternity clinic inside the Mexican consulate, with Mexican doctors and under Mexican law. (and Mexican prices)

I'm ok paying for her birth there.

Not a bad idea but what if a Mexican consulate hospital is not close enough for a Mexican mother about to give birth.

Indeed, but the cons do it all the time.

She should have considered that when she was in the eighth month of pregnancy before she gave birth.

I'm sure a midwife can be sought for her.
    Hopefully a Spanish-speaking one.

trump had two years, wasted golfing and trying to defund the ACA.

Oh he also twiddered a lot.

Looking at the 2020 maps based on number of seats in contested districts Republicans will lose seats in both the house and senate but still maintain majority in the senate, even if trump wins re-election there will likely be zero movement on the issue.

There was a time when my great, great grandparents were not citizens. But they had immigrated to the US and had children. By birthright citizenship, their children, my great grandparents became citizens. Their children, being born here, by birthright citizenship were also citizens. Same with my parents, myself, my children and grandchild.

Every person in the US who was born here, is a citizen because of birthright. If that clause wasn't there, your citizenship could be denied.

They stayed in the country, permanently living there and became naturalized.

Why would you think that is the case for a baby who does not stay in the country? A baby who is a foreign citizen of another country, and born to parents not legally permitted to be there.

Your citizenship isn't reliant on the Fourteenth Amendment though.

    So that argument fails.

(The concept of citizenship under the Constitution existed well before the Fourteenth Amendment. The Fourteenth Amendment isn't the end-all of saying who is a citizen)

Whatever it would rest on if the Fourteenth Amendment had never been passed, whatever it did rest on before the Fourteenth Amendment was passed.
That would be a discussion for another thread, wouldn't it?

Then in this discussion, it rests on the 14th, as the amendment clarifies the Constitution on citizenship.

The Amendment doesn't clarify citizenship, it just extends citizenship to an additional group of people.
Those people were African Americans, born of parents who had lived all their lives in the US, and who were likely going to spend all their lives in the US.
Many people (especially poor Blacks) did not have birth certificates back then.

Your argument does not work, as you will know.

Birth right citizenship will continue long after our lives.

It would be "too bad" if you or a family member were rushed to the ER one day and couldn't get treated because of the illegals queued up in front of you. Well actually NOT.

:) I can have the doctor and equipment come to me, so I am not too worried.
