I highly reccomend you see the movie interstellar with Mathew M. By far the best movie I've seen in the last ten years. I won't ruin the plot and I highly reccomend you go see it without looking into it ahead of time.
I appreciated that they made a very good effort on getting the science right. Of course I had one quibble....... WHO THE (*)(*)(*)(*) CHOOSES TO GO TO A PLANET RIGHT NEXT TO A BLACK HOLE?
I thought the movie was somewhat convoluted. There were attempts made to incorporate theoretical physics and I can appreciate the effort involved. What they got wrong, in terms of fluid dynamics, was on the water planet. The huge tidal wave caused by a higher gravity would be more along the lines of bobbing up and down and not what transpired in the movie. As I say, I thought the director Nolan made a valiant effort at a serious science fiction movie; however I still found it convoluted and I was not able to suspend my belief throughout the film. To each their own I suppose. The OP regards the film as one of the best sci-fi films ever while I believe Edge of Tomorrow was the better movie. Not necessarily the science behind it, because Interstellar did a remarkable job at adhering to theoretical physics for the most part. I just thought Edge of Tomorrow was more entertaining of the two.
I was entertained until the black hole/room behind the bookcase, then it was WTF! this just got stupid fast....a number of people I spoke with had the same impression. ..
