Scott Rasmussen rejects Chuck Todd’s ‘inaccurate’ interpretation of Fla. poll

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Friday, NBC White House correspondent and MSNBC “The Daily Rundown” host Chuck Todd more-or-less predicted that President Barack Obama would win Florida in November, citing the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll that gives Obama a five-point edge over Republican candidate Mitt Romney in that state.

Rasmussen Reports President Scott Rasmussen, however, said Todd’s projection was premature.

In an appearance on Laura Ingraham’s radio show Friday, Rasmussen said the state is hardly “off the map,” especially given the timing of the poll, which was immediately after the Democratic National Convention but before this week’s turmoil in the Middle East.

“There’s an accurate part and there’s an inaccurate part of the clip you just played,” he said. “If Mitt Romney loses Florida, it is over. He cannot win the presidency without Florida. He needs to win Ohio. Another very important state is Virginia. Those are keys and if any candidate loses all three of those, they’re going to lose.”

“It is inaccurate to say Florida is off the map,” he continued. “The problem the president has in Florida starts with his health care law. Seniors are more opposed to that law than anybody else. It is a state that is very close in polling and fundamentally is leaning a little bit Republican. Don’t know where it is going to go. It’s clearly a toss-up. And I would say that Ohio is a little bit tougher for Romney right now. The president has done an awful lot of advertising up there. They’ve really been driving the message the auto industry is helping the president a bit there.”

“If somebody tells you they know how this is going to turn out, they’re either lying to you or deluding themselves,” said Rasmussen. “It is too close to call. Both campaigns have weaknesses.”

"More-or-less" predicted after citing a poll.

So now that's right-wing speak for lying?

    Interesting.

Chucky cut his baby teeth @ PolitiHo, just one of hundreds of Democrap Shill Orgs that have the temerity to feign the "non-partisan" badge of courage.

The stench of excrement emanates from all the major news organizations. They are in their last days of relevance but are too egotistical and stupid to realize it.

Explain how a right wing nutjob shilling for the GOP has a disagreement of opinion with a real journalist is a 'lie'.

I am beginning to understand now why the right swallows and tells so many lies, they haven't a clue what a lie is!

Real journalist? Chuck Todd is a former Democratic staffer and has worked on Democratic campaigns. That's a shill.

This is an excellent example of what is known as the fallacy of the complex question.

It assumes, in its premise, a conclusion that has never been demonstrated (in this case, that Scott Rasmussen is "a right wing nutjob").

In a similar vein: Have you stopped beating your wife yet?

Rasmussen had McCain ahead of Obama in 2008:

I guess that means, by your ridiculous definition, that Rasmussen is a liar.

Don't you know, its always a lie if its not from a conservative source. The uncharitable Catholic always posts stuff like this cuz he's obviously a mouthpiece for the right.

I can't, because Rasmussen is not a right wing nutjob and UpChuck Todd is not a real journalist. You, however, are a real imbecile and a real moron.

    Bingo!! You got it.

Actually, its quite chariatable for me to instruct the ignorant, and there are so many ignorant liberals here to instruct.

Thanks for taking some of the workload off my shoulders. I've been teaching libs the difference between right and wrong, between success and failure, between atheistic immorality and Christian morality for as long as I've been visiting these political forums. But you're a breath of fresh righteous air; and for that I thank you for shooting straight against these socialist enemies of America and of the world. These libs live in an alternate utopian dream world where there is no such thing as hard work, success and ingenuity.

Your methods are uncharitable and un-Catholic. I'm sure your Priest would agree with me.

You just cannot help yorself from calling people names. Chuck Todd predicts Obama will win Florida. So you call him a liar?? I don't quite get that one. You may not agree with him. But how does that make him a liar? You call the guy in the last post ignorant and a moron. How they even allow you on this forum is beyond me. You can disagree with someone without calling them names. Hey ,if you are a republican, thats OK. It would be nice to debate the issues here. Make your case. The republicans would like to turn medicare into a voucher program. Increase defense spending, cut food stamps, outlaw abortions. These are positions you guys should be talking about. Making your case. Instead you call names. If Mitt can't debate any better than you guys I can see why Todd would make the prediction he made.

    From the Rasmussen website, itself:

But, if you would prefer another source, you might want to try this:

Well, I do have to agree that Libhater's example and philosophies has taught me much about the TRUE meaning and possible extent of dishonor, disgrace, and corruption!

I sincerely he and the people who share his white utopian dreams can find a place to be with each other to spare the rest of us the dismay of ending up in their neighborhoods.

I'm so happy that you've found this utopian lifestyle dodging bullets inside the city ghettos. I'm quite happy that you've adjusted to speaking Spanish as your #1 language. I'm so happy you've adjusted into a multicultural lifestyle that favors a One World Community by dissing our Constitution and our traditions at will. I'm so happy that you're comfortable having minorities, i.e. 'blacks' get preferential treatment in taking jobs away from WHITE people via Quotas and affirmative action policies. I'm so happy you're comfortable having sanctuary cities and others scoop up our illegals and giving them free tax-paid healthcare and education. I'm so happy that you're comfortable having our foodstamp president reside over half our population receiving some sort of socialist welfare bennies. I'm so happy that you're comfortable having a muslim CIC bow down to the terrorists worldwide while cutting our defense appropriations almost in half. I'm so happy that you're comfortable seeing 23 million out of work with little hope of ever getting another job again so long as obama is still in office.

I have a graph for you too:

    dem-over-sampling-numbersmuncher-270x164.jpg

This Graph Shows Why Obama Is Ahead in the Polls

Ever since the arguably skewed CNN poll of a few weeks back, conservative voters have been looking at the methodology of polling companies with an increasing amount of skepticism. The fact that most polls have used a model that tries to mimic the voter turnout in 2008, when Democrats beat Republican turnout by 7 points (as opposed to presidential elections like 2004, where turnout between the two parties was relatively even), has not improved this state of affairs.

And now, the suspicion of poll bias appears to have yet one more piece of evidence to support it. Via a tweet by anonymous poll analyst NumbersCruncher comes the following graph showing the degree of oversampling of Democrats employed by the most recent polls (all of which show Obama leading Romney):

Blogger keithbacker at Battleground Watch sums up the graph this way:

The real take-away which I have mentioned the times I blog national polls is that many of those national polls are HORRIBLE for Obama, namely the ABC/Washington Post and CBS/New York Times polls where you have large Democrat over-samplings but rather small leads for Obama. This means if Obama doesn’t meet or beat his stellar 2008 turnout advantage he’s in for a drubbing on election day.

These over-samplings serve a few purposes but mainly drive down enthusiasm for Republicans while assisting the Obama campaign with “bandwagon” supporters who simply like being on the winning team (they’re real and they count).

This is a telling bit of information, and shows the power of polls to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Granted, most of the polls using a high Democrat oversampling may be doing so simply as a means to estimate conservatively what could happen, if things stay the same from 2008. This is not unreasonable, given the enthusiasm gap that has recently been measured, but that enthusiasm gap is itself arguably reinforced by polling. The Romney ground game will need to push back aggressively if it wants to make up for that negative feedback loop.
